Trying to find a good bright exterior flood light to mount to the backside of my garage. It will serve for general light and security. It will be on all night, not motion sensored. I would like it as bright as possible....any thoughts? I did see some new LED flood light at the local strip mall which were awesome but I can't find anything online.

Thanks.

We have the two bulb flood light model.

This double-headed outdoor flood light has a gleaming bronze finish. Locking swivel arms provide easy adjustment and optimal light output. It is suitable for wet locations and accepts up to 150 watts maximum per socket. The mounting plate and weatherproof gasket are included. It is useful for both up or down lighting. Die-cast aluminum.

LEDs last an incredibly long time and use almost no energy, but are never as bright as halogen.

Just go with a generic 2-bulb flood light from Home Depot/Lowes. You should be able to find a model with a photosensor (turns off at daylight) instead of a motion sensor. The lights are about $10 and the bulbs are about $3.50 each. Otherwise, you could wire a photosensor up to the box the light attaches to. Photosensors run about $7.

Make sure the bulbs, light, and everything else are outdoor-rated. You'll also need an outdoor rated box, conduit, etc.

Plenty of light & only 1000 watts + ballast loss.

I am looking more along the lines of a large unit.....like a 12" housing with a high output metal halide.

Edit......Ya something more like what Norcal posted. It will be mounted up towards the peak of the roof off the back of the garage roughly 22' up.

Metal halide will give you a bright white light, high pressure sodium and mecury vapor , not so white. Might want to go to Grainger on line and look at their 70 watt metal halides exterior floodlights or bigger if desired. .

If your not covering a big area a cheap 2 bulb exterior floodlight fixture with a couple of CFL flood lightbulbs

That is exactly what I've been using on my house. I set mine up on a photocell, and use two 26 watt CFLs.

For my garage, I put up 26 watt fixtures with photocells that use the the FML26 plugin pin type lamps. They seem to do a much better job than either incandescent or halogen lighting.
