Ok I'll be graduating UTI here soon and I have already bought most of all my tools from matco/silver eagle as it was cheaper and I was able to pay cash instead of financing. I am getting that 1000 dollar credit to snap on and was wondering what I should use it on. I do not have a impact, impact sockets, or tool box yet. I am also missing a bunch of misc items such as hammers and just little stuff. My plan was to buy a Ingrasal Rand titanium 1/2 impact and Pittsburgh impact sockets. I was also going to get the 41" box at harbor freight but remembered I have the snap on credit. So I am kinda indecisive on what I should use it on. I could get this stuff:

KRSC46 box for 890.37 and spend the rest on misc stuff

KRA2407PBO for 1206.70

KRA2106FPBO box for 1016.86

SEPMG31k and SEPMG725k this would set me at like 900 but I think I'll be good on impact stuff.

I could also give you guys a list of the stuff I have so you guys can see what would be best for me. Mind you I'm starting out fresh wish tools so I'm starting with nothing. Thanks for your time.

The students I talked to said they didn't get that deal anymore. Heard that was dropped several years ago?

Also heard even when they did get "$1000" that meant full msrp.

Don't know if that is true or not, so you might want to check with your rep or tooltruck guy or whoever handles student sales for your school.

If you get discount, buy biggest tool box you can get. Don't look back, those carts will fill up fast.

Biggest box I can get is a KRA2411 for 2700. I really hope they don't pull that ******** with giving to me at cost.

Even if this "voucher" or what not, does not pan out, hurry up and pony up for the KRSC46 at $890. It's a good deal. Hell, I'd pay more than that right now just to buy one off a student....even if it was used.

Consider KRA5311 too. I love the deep 5.5" top drawer, though depth is tad bit smaller.

I owned a HF 42" box for about a year. It was bought slightly used and used soley as a homeowner box.

After the year or so of use the detents were starting to go. I am a big fan of HF and that tool box line as well, but personally if using it daily as a tech I would avoid it. I did sell mine to a Toyota tech but he was also just using it for the time being and said his trucks would give him a trade-in at cost of what he paid for it so he wasn't out any money.

The only box I would recommend from HF for techs used daily is this one:

http://www.harborfreight.com/56-inch-11-drawer-industrial-roller-cabinet-67681.html

It's got spring loaded locks on the side of the drawers - no detents to wear.

I'm not a tech just a home DIY guy but I wanted to inject about that HF tool box.

Also take a look at the 1/2" Earthquake from there as well, that impact can hang with the big dogs for just $75. Don't let the price deter you from at least looking at it.

After buying a half step up tool box from International, I can definitely see why people spend big money on Snap-On tool boxes.

I graduated last nov and I put the $1000 towards a larger order I made, I started a thread about it last yr if u want to see. Now that I don't get the discount anymore I regret not buying more. I would put the money towards their torx and hex socket sets, they hold up the best and dual 80 ratchets, the more the merrier. So which campus are you going too.

if its the way it was when i went there, you pick from packages, its not just a 1000 bucks to snap on for whatever. my suggestion is the 1/2 inch and 3/8 inch blue point impacts and sockets. sockets are top notch, the 3/8 still gets used daily, the 1/2 broke and my dealer trade me the broken gun for a mg725 for only 100 bucks more, hell of a deal if you ask me.

I got my torx and hex sockets from silver eagle heard there pretty good. I also got a 3 piece 88 tooth matco ratchets. Could I get the link for that thread I enjoy reading stuff. I am going to the AZ campus I'm from here so It was easy with family and all. Plus I get a full ride thanks to the GI bill.

Cool dude thanks for the info I'll probably swing by his office and throw some ideas at him see what he says. I might throw some questions your way if I have anymore.

I just bought a repo'ed tool from a whole student starter kid that my dealer got back when he couldn't pay for em. Got 50% off and they were never even used. Would have got more if I didn't have 99.8% of the kit already. I passed on the tape measure and hammer though. Just ended up with a set of needle nose I somehow don't have.

Sockets and wrenches can be purchased at 50% or more off on ebay any time. The program has a hard limit so i wouldnt waste any, if possible, on items discounted to prices i can pick them up for any day of the week.

And do NOT listen to people about a cart being a bad idea. That $900 is a smoking deal and should be a no brainer. Mobility is key and not every work place has the space for obnoxiously sized boxes. Get the SO cart, if you need more space get the HF box for additional storage for the seldom used items. Your cart will easily hold what you use for 95% of your day to day tasks.

Biggest box I can get is a KRA2411 for 2700. I really hope they don't pull that ******** with giving to me at cost.

This is nice condition KRL money on ebay/craigslist. Dont bother. To add to this the return on investment for that box is about 50%. The cart at $900 on the other hand would be pretty close to 100% assuming you keep it in great shape.

Not sure if the program covers the KRSC416 series but its essentially the same as the KRSC46 except the lid is roll off to act as a work surface.

Alright so I talk to the snap on rep today and he said its 605 on anything I want if I spend over 900. So I'm probably going to get the cart because I only have to come out of pocket 300 something bucks.

Whatever your going to get, providing you can get the $1000 credit while your still a student, get it while your still in school because as soon as you graduate, the discount is gone. Also, like the other guy said, get the biggest box you can, at least a double bank. However, that being said, if it were me, I would get a store brand box(Craftsman, etc.) and use the $1000 on the tools you need. I say that because $1000 does not go far on a Snap On truck at all, or any truck for that matter. This is just what I would do if the oppurtunity were given to me. You have that decision to make for your self. Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure I can speak for all of the GJ members here when I say good luck in what you choose and good luck in your career!

Yeah that sounds familiar, it's $1000ish retail or $600ish w/ the student discount. Still a great deal if u ask me. So what cart r u getting? I just picked up a 100 series Cornwell cart paid $669 for it.

There is a lot of snap on basic tools on the market for the same or less price than his discount. Wrenches/ratchets/sockets. Not to mention a plethora of other choices.

The things that are going to shine on discount is the KRSC46, certain air tools, and specialty tools that you cannot find any where else or for that price.

You can find bigger/better boxes for less, but you cannot consistently find a bigger/better cart for that price. Used often runs 1000-1300. A lot of guys are starting to work out of these almost exclusively and rarely even opening up their large krl 10xx series boxes. Watched a guy go for several days w/o even unlocking his. All the needed stuff was instead right at his side.

Air hammer/drills/cutoff tool might be tempting depending on specific price.

Unique/special access stuff is a given.

whatever you get dont get the impact, air ratchet, 1/2" sockets, and 3/8" wobble sockets they offer you on that paper with all the tool bundles. you get bluepoint air tools and they ****. i could barely take lug nuts off. traded them in a week later on snap on ones

KRSC46 is my vote, there is all so a slightly smaller variant of it which is 1390 full retail instead of 1590 full retail I have the smaller variant and i love it. easy to roll around from bay to bay to bay to bay to break time, to bay to bay to bay :p

i use cut-offs, drills a good bit drilling out exhaust bolts. fixing exhaust pipe issues, etc

A few guys have a RADKITPLUSA Vacuum/Filler, Cooling System $243.95 i use that a good bit too, a few times a week at least.

also, if you dont have impacts? you can always trade in those pesky chrome :p sockets and get a set of impacts..

Yeah I decided to get the KRSC46 in black. Looks really nice and when I decide I need a bigger box I can just use this as its intended purpose as a tool cart. I really wanted the green one and I was going to get the carbon fiber slides but were only allowed to get the blue, red or black ones.
