roger55, please post up some more pics of the inside of your garage/gas station.

Click on the link in my signature and you will see a gallery of all my online pictures.

I might have to take a few new ones soon. Right now I'm installing in-wall speakers for a home theater system.

Here's one still standing in Langley, BC, just near my place. I am building kind of a similar look (renderings) just pouring the slab Tuesday.

Probably a little late in the game, but in seeing your wonderful "station" shop (and the others linked on here), reminded me that there is a complete vintage Texaco station inside of the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit.

Don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but if anybody planning this kind of thing is looking for inspiration (and ideas), you might want to stop by if you are in the area.

Actually, if you are a gearhead, there are about a million reasons to visit, but just thought I'd bring up that one specific one.

The outer edge of the island to the face of the building is 19' 2". You are pretty much right on the money.

any updates on your shop?
No updates on the shop. However, I am in the process of painting my '55 Bel Air. It's getting exciting now!

As we speak, I'm waiting for the 2nd coat of clear on the trunk lid to dry 30 minutes before putting on the 3rd and final coat.

Then on to the doors, fenders and hood.

My car is scheduled to go to the interior shop at the end of next month.

The best part of your garage is that you use it! It is beautiful, and functional!

BTW Great 55. My childhood friend still has his 57 that we restored in high school, same colors.

Here are my fans. They are 12V automobile radiator fans driven by a power supply. Way cheaper than getting a commercial paint booth explosion proof fan. The radiator fans have sealed motors so they are safe. I have them set up to blow out.

For incoming air, I remove the windows from the garage door and tape furnace filters there:

If you don't mind me asking, it looks like you've got very little overspray on the walls or floor. Are you just that good :), or do you have some method of covering them during work?

The purpose for that room was intended to be for abuse. I don't worry about overspray or welding, grinding, etc..
That said, the epoxy floor is holding up considerably well and serving the purpose I intended for it. It is still easy to sweep and wash down.

Roger,

Thanks for the fan idea. I just bought a new radiator and fan setup for the big block and the old one will fit my garage window perfectly. I had thought I would have to spend hundreds on explosion-proof fans or have box fans blowing in (for safety) but you're right, the 12V cooling fans are sealed. I think I can cut the shroud to fit in the frame in place of the screen on the outside. Window will still close so the A/C air doesn't escape while taping and cleaning.

Just an FYI, automotive radiator fans are NOT explosion proof by any means, just because they're listed as "sealed". I would put them at the end of a duct and have them blow in if you're going to use it, and have them on continuously so the fumes never reach the fans.

I've sprayed lacquer thinner and reducer directly into these fans at point blank range when cleaning my guns.

Thanks! I wondered if anyone would pick up on that.
It's from Hotrod Dynamics and it is polished stainless. I'm really not going for that much bling under the hood but the stock stamped steel piece is kind of ugly.

Late to the garage-build-party here, but I have to tell you I am truly in awe. What an incredible job you have done seeing it through from the original drawing on page 1 to the building itself. This is a one-of-a-kind thing you have done, and is so far my favorite build on this forum.

Thanks for sharing, and great Bel-Air!
