Oh ****...Another Blackhawk Project!!

My Blackhawk addiction is getting out of hand.........

Based on the amount of attachments in it, I think this was originally an SA-18, 2-Ton Porto-Power set.

I have no use for it, but damn it sure looks cool..to me!!

A heavily constructed constructed case, weighs about 70-80 lbs loaded up.

I have an idea of what you could do with some of the attachments, but I'm pretty much just clueless about most of them. Maybe this little hydraulic oil soaked mystery manual will help me out later.

Some close-up shots of the inner decals. I wish some of these were a little nicer, but I'm happy that they are even there to begin with.

Some nice art-deco styling on the pump.

Lots of old crud to keep me busy, hopefully it will clean up nice.

From a 1948 catalog. This must have been a pretty cool set when it was new.

My dad used a porta power set to repair bodywork, back in the day. They actually fixed the sheet metal instaed of throwing a new panel on it. Labor was the cheaper commodity at that time. A shop might have a large in ground frame machine for big jobs, but a set like yours could be used for smaller jobs, the different attachments for the size/shape of the job, to push the sheet metal back to close to the original shape, then the hand work with sheet metal hammers.

That is quite a find there. If it were me I'd rebuild the pump (if possible) and replace the hydraulic hose and use the @#% out of that kit!

I'd give some serious thought to replacing the hydraulic hose on that though, possibly even replacing the seals in the pump and cylinders as well.

I have a manual or booklet from Blackhawk that shows something like 100 or 1000 uses for Porta Power equipment. I recently moved my office, but when I dig the manual out from the box I tossed it in, I can share the contents with you.

VERY cool set. I'd get some high resolution scans if possible of that decal and others, so that a graphic designer could redo it if necessary in the future.

Also, if you use it please replace the hoses and seals. Hydraulic oil injected into the skin under pressure is a baaaaaaaaaaad event, and I'm sure working near/around it you put yourself at risk.

I have a BIL that has some graphic design skills. The decals on this box might be a good test for him.

Good advice. I'm not even going to attempt to use this kit until the hose gets changed out and the pump and ram receive a proper rebuild.

Sorry, I didn't see this sooner. Here are some auto body repair examples. I'm sure with using one's imagination, a lot more applications can be thought of.

Yup great for straightening bumpers on a modified or put it to use when you back your asphalt late model into the wall.


I never knew where the name Porto-Power came from until I read this. Unfortunately all the racers I know (and borrow from!) have cheap off-shore versions, nothing as quality as a genuine Porto-Power.

I just found this thread tonight. I ended up with this particular porto power set a few years ago.
I sand blasted the case and repainted it. I had a new decal made for the right hand side and my sign painter friend painted the logo on the left hand side. I refinished the tools inside and have the set hanging in my Big party garage.
