Lol... I bought a great 1/2" drive wright ratchet on ebay for $12 + $6 shipping. It was used, but it works awesome. Left me enough money to buy a used 1/4 & 3/8 ratchet and still be under $50.

Used rocks, especially since i am gonna use them myself.

Save the money and buy your wife some flowers with the extra

You can get some SO or Matco gentle used on Ebay for that price. I scored a soft-handled Matco 88 yesterday for $45 there...love me some used!

I have the BAHCO's in 1/4 and 3/8 drive and they're nice ratchets. However when I use 1/2 inch drive, I want some oomph behind it (otherwise I'd use 3/8 drive) so I like this 15 inch long Williams model.

36 teeth is okay for 1/2 drive to me since using means I have the room.
There's nothing wrong with the plain Jane Craftsman 1/2 drive flex head rathet for less than $40 at your local Sears either for that matter.

yes those are the ones. I have never handled the bahco so I can't comment but you are right the guts are dual 80 import guts. The only issue i see with the bahco is the really fat handle. I prefer large ratchet handles so no problem for me but some people don't care for them. If you get the bahco's be sure to post up a review

get a long handle. Standard (short) handle 1/2" drive ratchets are somewhat useless.

Sorry, I didn't read the title carefully enough. It was a 3/8 not a 1/2. I did get a 1/2 Williams USA made for $16 though. Best deal I have gotten so far. Not the smoothest thing but it will work fine for me!

There is a 1/2 super long hardhandle Matco for $79....more then your budget but really not a bad price for something that is like 2' long.

Hi all,

I posted in another thread about starting a collection. I'm also looking for a ratchet, only in 3/8" drive.

My initial plan was to pickup a Snap-On F80 off of Ebay for around $55. ($85 now). Seemed pretty reasonable.

That said, if I can find a ratchet that's 90% as good for $35 or less, it's probably worth it.

I've been reading here a lot about the Williams Industrial brand. A few questions:
1. Is there a Williams equivalent of the F80? (80 tooth, or really any fine toothed ratchet)
2. Are Williams made in the USA?
3. Are they actually exactly the same as snap-on, or is there a difference?
4. I'm trying to find differences in max torque ratings for a fine-toothed ratchet (say, 60-80 teeth) vs. a coarser tooth ratchet (36 teeth, etc). Are they quite close, or not really?
