I'm looking at a used Rock Island 594 in decent shape, except one of the jaw inserts is missing. Anyone know of places who manufacture replacements, or if there are aftermarket sellers out there? My own machine shop skills are non-existent unfortunately.

Small pic of the vise is here.

Autopts got me some wilton vise jaws for my 350. Don't know what he has access to or carries. I would shoot him a PM and see what he can offer you.

Can that face still take a channeled jaw or does it look like they used it without the jaw? From that small photo, it appears like that vise has been used heavily. I don't know if I would put $50 into it. Thats about what a machinist would want. I only have jaws for Wiltons.

Appreciate the reply, thanks much.

I've emailed the seller and asked for a couple of closeups, to see how beat up that portion is as well as the vise condition in general. The seller is asking $50 for the vise and says its in good working shape-- we'll see, but you say $50 is a typical price a machinist might charge for a new insert? Are replacement insert screws hard to come by? I've never dealt with jaw inserts before, that's the reason for all the basic questions.

If you have the jaw made, the machinist can countersink the holes so cap screws can be used. A vise could be in " good working shape" but cosmedically aweful. If he's been using it without the jaw, don't waste your time and money.

Anyone have ideas as to how to fix a Rock Island vise with a missing jaw?

Put in a good clear photo of the part with the missing jaw, if you would, please.

Depending on the particular model/version of vise you have, I may be able to offer you a useful idea........ : )

cheers
