Sheetmetal Brake stand... suggestions?

Anybody have some suggestions on a sheetmetal brake stand?
I've got a 48-inch box and pan brake and I need to make a stand for it.
The thing weighs 300 pounds, which I'm told makes it "light duty."

I want to build a stand for it... anyone have pics of theirs? What's the foot print on yours? Obviously, mass is king, because I don't want it to move when I'm living on the front of it.

So let's see 'em!

Not sure how many sheetmetal guys are on the board, adn of those that have a "portable" brake. Post a Pic of yours, including quartering shots form the side, so we know what you are dealing with.

Most brakes do their bending by lifting/pushing, so the key is usually back side support.

If it is what I have in mind, an old heavy desk from the 50's/60's might make a good platform.

When I worked in the sheet metal shop the 4' brakes had stands made out of 2x2x 1/4" angle iron. The stand got wider towards the bottom,like a vee.They where bolted to the brake and to the floor, when you bent something the brake better not move its a lot of mass with the counter weights and all.

I honestly hadn't thought of bolting it to the floor! That's a great idea.

And really, probably just solved my whole question.

Ours is 2x2 angle like posted above......put a shelf in,and even painted it.


But posted to say,when "shopping" for ideas on stuff exactly like this.....I go to evil-bay.Start looking for what factory's were/are putting on theirs.Then rip'm off major.Got a Baliegh catalog at the welding joint a cpl weeks ago.And it wasn't about getting one of their pcs of equip.It was SOLEY for stealin industrial design idea's on their cabmets.Got a cpl really good ones......hey,what can I say?Buyin chit just ain't in the budget.And to be honest.....we can fab the stuff up pretty darn fast.

A shop can be self generating or is it re-generating?Meaning,as a shop grows.....if you do it right.....the more it serves to create the bits and pcs necessary to take everything to the next level......So we buy fabricating equip,which is used to build MORE fabricating chit.BW

I've seen one that used a pair of legs from an old Southbend lathe.. & it was also bolted to the floor

It is a 24 inch Di-Acro that was originally a box and pan brake. I bought it for $15, with the fingers missing, from a salvage yard, and added the bending plate that I ground on a knife sharpening machine.
