My homemade top hutch

Thought I'd share this you guys. It's actually built from wood, started life as an old desk we were going to get rid of. I gusseted, glued and screwed all of the corners and joints, and it's pretty darned solid.
I lined it with 1/4" hardened pegboard, and our painter laid multiple coats of primer and several coats of Imron on it for me, and most people can't believe it's wood.
Hardest part was figuring out how to make the sliding front cover work, but I think it turned out pretty slick.

The only thing I dont get is why you didnt make it fit the box? It just looks a little weird being shorter than the box.

It was a 60" wide desk, my box is 66" wide. Wouldn't have been worth it to try to widen it to fit perfectly.
Besides, I don't mind having a little space to set things like a coffee cup or aerosol can when the top is closed up.

Ohhh ok that makes complete sense, But if you were cutting material for this project i would have thought you would have made it 66"
