I've been lurking here for a while, watching the back and forth about Snap-On toolboxes vs. Harbor Freight and other brands. The SO man stopped by, pointed at me and said "I'm in a toolbox selling mood, and I have a box for you". He was right, sold me a Candy Apple Red KRL 7022 for $3400 plus my old C-Man boxes in trade. I had almost talked myself into a HF box, but now that I have the SO, there are no regrets (except now I want more tools to fill it up!)

Welcome to GJ!!! It is a constant battle with the tool addiction. You see all those lonely tools and all the extra space and you want to make your tools happy, so you buy more tools. Then you have to buy more tools to make the new tools happy. It is a slippery slope, so hang on and enjoy the ride!!!:3gears:

They take craftsman boxes on trade? Im surprised.

I think that depends entirely on the Snap-on guy. It's his choice what he trades for. He may have some people at his stops that would be all over the craftsman boxes and then again maybe the Snap-on box was a repo and he only has $500 in it so he can eat the trade in he gave on the craftsman boxes.

You never know his thinking, but I'm sure the Snap-on guy is coming out to the good whatever his thinking and sales market is.

Next time don't show the cat what you paid. ;)

Welcome to the forum.

My toolboxes are two steps below your old Craftsman boxes.

Congratulations & DITTO! I just traded in a 40 or so year old Snap On tiny roll cab for a 7022 exactly like yours 'cept mine's Mica Green. $3500 plus tx. Do you have a work bench? If you don't then don't get a top box; your 7022 top can easily take a beating, esp if you wait till the work sufface tops go on sale.

Again, congrats!

Thanks for all of the thumbs ups. I'm sure everyone has the one buzz-kill guy around the shop that has a negative remark about whatever your'e excited about. But that didn't wipe the stupid grin off my face. Currently, I have a mix of C-man, SO, Proto, Williams, some of my grandfathers Plomb, and (dare I say it?) some Harbor Freight. My to-get list is growing, gonna take the cheapies home and put the good stuff in the money-maker box. And yep, I already want a top box. I'm not for sure what they do with the C-man trade ins, but with all the activity around here, I bet some new shop hand somewhere will get them.

Wise choice on the box. You won't be sorry.

You mention you want the top box. Can I make a suggestion on increasing your tool storage, look into side cabinets. I went that route with my later tool storage after never having a work surface to put tools, parts and rebuild items on. Just an idea.

If you are working in a shop environment, you're always going to have the " *** " who has nothing good to say about anything. He's jealous when you get something good. He rags on anything you have that he feels is inferior. Basically, he hates his life and hates you because you don't hate yours.

Good luck, work hard and enjoy the trade reguardless of what the negative life hating "***" types say. In short, welcome to our world.

Nice! I would love to do that! I almost have the wife convinced, but it may be a couple more years. I may buy a snap on cart to hold me over till I pull the trigger on a box. I had a classic 96 that I had to sell and I loved it. I will go krl or epiq next time. That box will last you a lifetime if you take a little care of it.

tbobbo, I know what you mean about the wife. At a previous job with company tools, it was a tradeoff to buy tools for the garage. You know the "You got a shiney tool, so I get a shiney (expensive)trinket" line? But now that the tools are money makers, it's usually a easy OK. It also helps that she works in the front office of the shop and actually sees me using the tools!

I take it you have expierence in this area? And yes it does **** to have that person in the shop. The "***" in our shop has to have the biggest, longest, best than everyone else in the shop.

Good for you, imnidiot2. :rocker:

I had to go and dig out my tool receipts to see when I bought my current box(KRL1001). March of 2003. I'm literally wearing the paint off of it and it's looking a little rough, but is still 100% functional.:D

I'm jealous........... now I want a new one too.:willy_nil
