Wow.

But weird, estate sale on tue and wed. Too late, already missed it for me. And yup, I'm workin too - although might make more buying and selling there than at work. Lol.

I was eyeballing the anvil too but it was a cast iron one, not forged or cast steel. My old man is somewhat of an expert when it comes to anvils and he said don't even bother.

The company that was doing the sale always starts his sales on tuesdays with the idea that customers will think, "its a tuesday, nobody will be there". You get enough people thinking like that and bam, it a packed sale.

I've been to a few of his sales and got some good stuff but good luck getting into the garage without acting like a complete animal. He opens them up and people will crawl under the opening door to grab stuff in a huge free-for-all!!

I've witnessed a 2 car garage, with tools on 3 walls, be torn to bare walls in the time it takes a segmented garage door to fully open. The estate sale tool buying market in Orange County is a bit too much for me to handle, and i go to sale every weekend, but avoid OC like the plague.

Looks like a good sale! I just started working again, so I am going to be missing a lot more of these in the future. I missed an anvil myself a week ago, but got some other great deals at the sale. If you're not there early the first day, you will miss the good deals.

I have seen sales start on every day of the week around here. Not sure if the companies try to stagger them so they don't compete on the same days or what.

How can we tell? Would we be able to tell with a rap of a hammer?

It does look a little "fat" compared to pictures of others that I have seen.

I think you could just tell by the fit and finish of the steel My old man was pretty sure of the brand of the anvil, just by looking at the shape. Blacksmithing has been a hobby of his for 30 years and he is always on the lookout for a good anvil and knows his stuff.

If you are early the first day, you will pay exactly what they are asking unless you are at a non-professional sale. The upside is you might get a very unique item. I've picked up some really cool deals at the last day of the sale, when they are trying their hardest to blow all the items out of the house.

When you hit a cast iron anvil with a hammer it has a much different "ring" than a steel one. Hard to describe, but if you try it you will see what I'm talking about. YMMV.
