Has anyone used them? As far as strength, how do you all think they would be very strong, say compared to a 6 point?

I have the mm spline ratchet wrenches, but can't really use as a ref for sockets

I have the 3/8 drive set. They remind me of the Bonney 12 pt design that looked like lobes. If you have the SK G force wrenches then they will be the same style design as the sockets. They work on several different types of fasteners. I have had no problems with mine but I haven't had a chance to try to use them on a well rounded fastener yet.

The only time I used a 6 pt 3/8 dr socket was if I was using a small size such as 3/8 and smaller.

6pt or 12pt, not nearly the issue everyone tends to make of it to me. I have both in wrenches and sockets and for most stuff one works as well as the other!

Thanks for the replies so far. I am not debating if 6 point is better than 12 point, (I do think a 6 point is stronger though) I am just wondering if the spline drive SK sockets would hold up under pressure as well as a 6pt.

I really do not think you will have any issues with spline drive sockets, though I do not think they would be my choice for the rusted, or rounding hex fasteners.

actually, a spline drive socket will contact a six point fastener FURTHER away from the corner than normal sockets. so they should be MORE usefull on those rusted and/or rounded fasteners.

In the spline ads they state can be used for E-torx. Anyone had any experience with that?

If so what fits what size?

Yes, they fit external torx great. (at least the wrenches do) the size is depends on what you need.

They also work well on the 2500/3500 Dodge truck caliper bolts that I normally use an 8 or 12 point socket on.

I was being sincere when I was referring to the 12 point fasteners; it's Krusty and Mr. Schoendorff that seem to have other things on their mind.

in 28 years as a mechanic i've only used 12pt sockets a dozen times.

I only recently (within the last 10 years) acquired six points. All my sockets were 12 points when I was in the trade (Heavy duty) during the 1980's.

I guess its just personal preference. I don't find 6 points work any better or worse that 12 points, except on a breaker bar the 12 points are better in tight spots.

On the farms we used and still use mainly 12 pt. Has seldom caused us issues. We do have to use 12pts in tight places. 3/4 sets and large 1/2's are all 12 pt. It is in the small sizes we see the 6pt being useful.

Until just a few years ago 6 pts were considered some type of cheaper thicker socket. It was only when they started appearing in sets that we started getting it. Most of the old catalogs we had have 12 pts in the sets.

That is why I am thinking about sampling a spline set and see if it is useful enough to cut some of the duplicates we have.
