Make a Table Saw into Router Table?

Am I nuts or is this a reasonable idea?

Have the Bosch 4100-09 table saw and the right side of the table opens for wide ripping.

I was thinking of making a top to fit in the gap between the main table and extension for a router mounting to use the fence and miter. The top would be about 13 wide and 24 long and approx 3/4 thick, plenty of room to mount a router. Would have some clamps underneath to secure the router top to the extension rails

using a suitable adapter plate.

Some saws were made that way from the factory. even going back to the 50's

I think Ryobi has a table saw with a system like you are considering so no ... you're not nuts.

I have a DeWalt DW744 that I plan to build a cabinet for and add a router table next to. I purchased this model because of the rack and pinion fence. I'll be able to use the fence it for both tools.
