Matco ratcheting combination wrenches?

Anyone have these? I am in the market for some good ratcheting combo wrenches. I've been wanting the Snap Ons but the matcos are quite a bit cheaper. Does anyone know who makes them/if they are USA made? I see there are two versions - a 90 tooth version and a 72 tooth version for about 1/2 the price.

Anyone have any experience with these wrenches?

My older Matco pro swings are US. If you don't need new, they're pretty available, and you can usually get "like new" sets

i have and use the ratchet wrenches in offset and swivel both reversing, but by far the most used are the double box extra long swivel. these are the matco branded ones, the snap on ones hold up a little better, the gearwrench set is the loan out set so they get broke alot and i don't own any mac ones yet. i have a set of snap on double box about 30 years old, and have never broken one of those, but they are a pain to use.

Not usa made. As far as I know armstrong and strap-on are the only usa ratcheting wrenches.

Not True. It depends on the model. Mine all have USA stamped on them. In fact they were made in Armstrong factories. :wtf:

My favorite ratcheting wrench is the standard length one made by Armstrong/Matco with a fixed 15 degree 12 point boxed end on one end and a zero offset fine toothed ratcheting boxed end on the other.

The last set that I ordered came with with "Made in Taiwan" on the box. They were the long, zero offset ratcheting wrenchs.

If you look around you can find some good deals on snap on ones. I have a set of standard ones new in the package that I want to sell, as I picked up some reversible ones.

As Fedwrench states, some are USA made, some are not. Reguardless of COO, they will be made in a Danaher factory, with extremely tight QC measures. Whether it be in the US or Taiwan. These are NOT Gearwrench produced.

I currently own ans use the Metric Combo 72 tooth wrenches (USA), 15 degree offset box/ratchet (USA), 72 tooth Ergo combo (USA) and the 72 tooth flex-head spline drive set (Taiwan) and have on order the new 90 tooth combo set (Taiwan)

Never an issue with a single wrench. I choose what I think is the best Tools for the job at hand. Not where it was made.

The Pro Swing wrenches are stamped USA. I have no idea what this guy is looking at.

He was probably looking at the Gearwrench Gearbox clone set. The XXlong zero offset with a ratcheting end on one side and a fixed boxed end on the other. Those along with the flex head version are Taiwan made.

Hammer, let us know what you think of the 90 toothed set. Thanks,

These are the ones I was talking about, they were a BOGO deal with the Metric/SAE sets. They are stamped Matco but made in Taiwan. I might be from Georgia and speak slowly but I did learn to read before I graduated from the third grade at 17.....

Yes, and those are the Gearwrench Gearbox clones I spoke of. About 10 years ago Matco had a smaller set (10, 12, 13, 14, 15mm) of the same type wrenches but, they were stamped USA.

Those were the ones that I remembered and STUPID me did not ask... The dealer had me pre-pay to get the damn things (he was against his tool bill) and needless to say, I was pissed when they came in. USA prices for Taiwan tools did not set well and they were the last Matco tools that I bought.

I would think the Matco Armstrong would be the same.

Just curious, so Armstrong & Gearwrench are made in different factories (in regards to Danaher stuff not made in the US)? After all Danaher owns Apex Tool Group which owns Armstrong & Gearwrench.

I don't think Danaher owns Apex tool group. It started out as a joint venture between Cooper Industries and Danaher.

Off the top of my head the only Armstrong branded tool not US made is their ratcheting adapters. There may be others. Some Armstrong tools (pinless impact sockets, some proswing ratcheting wrenches are identical to the matco version aside from the name stamped into it.

I think the PRC made Gearwrench stuff is made in the SATA (chinese Matco)factory but, that is purely a guess.

I'm not sure which Taiwan company or companies make their stuff but, it is head and shoulders above the PRC tools in fit, finish, and durability. I know Kabo makes those really long flex head ratcheting boxed wrenches.
