How to get a Snap On tool box at a discount?

Hi,

I used to be in the business years ago, and now want to get a SO roll cab for my weekend warrior activities. I know it's overkill, but it's reliving my youth.

Problem is, I don't want to pay the list price for a 54" roll cab. Is there anyway for a regular civilian to get a deal on a new box? I'm looking for a 54" either 19 or 24 inches deep ie KRA2411 or KRA 5213.

Any way to catch a break?

Thanks,

Blue

The best way I can think of is to sign up for a night class at your local technical school. The one in my area has a deal where students can get anything from the dealer at 50% discount, the only hitch is you must buy at least $300.00 worth of tools to get the discount.

The way he spelled it out yeah. He gave a full run down in one of these threads around here.

Yea, but I cant help but question that one. I know he was a dealer and all, but I dont see how a dealer could really have more than a 50% markup on those boxes, and then sell them at cost? You think the dealer really has enough margin to ell them for less than 50% of retail? Plus have them shipped? Snap On boxes are expensive, but I dont think there is that much profit margin for the dealer there. The scenario just doesnt sound reasonable to me.

last i knew the SO dealer markup was 33%. and before you guys use that as a bargaining chip there is an EXTREME amount of overhead to come out of such a small margin.

Correct. and as you said, that margin isnt counting in fuel, which is extremely expensive for those guys, tires and service on the truck, payments on the truck, insurance, taxes, loss from disappearing deadbeats, etc. Im sure the list goes on.

Best way to get a SO box at a reasonable cost is to buy a trade-in or repo box from the dealer.I was able to get a virtually new KRA4007 andKRA 4114 with a side locker for $2500 cash a couple of years ago.The box was less than a year old and hadn't even had tools in some of the drawers when I got it.It was a trade-in on a 3 bay /ss top KRL box that a kid in a stereo installation shop had to have.
Let the dealer know what you want, and if he doesn't have it already,he'll let you know when one shows up.The box I bought was picked up by the dealer and he came directly to my shop to show it to me.He never even took it to his shop to clean it up and put it in inventory.I figure I saved about 50% on my box.

He probably paid cash for them and may not have gotten a receipt. When I bought my box, I handed the dealer the full amount in cash and got no receipt in return; that was flat out spooky. :eek2:

x2. I work at a stereo shop and traded in a KRL 2 wide box because I got a super minor scratch on a drawer front. I think the box was 6200 new. my dealer ended up reselling it for around 4000 iirc.

All True. I just received my $2000 rebate a week and a half ago, and the 10% tool cert discount is in the mail. I have the receipt if you would like to see it? The key is patience. I waited till the right time and had the money and credit to do the deal. I am still waiting for the boxes, but I don't have room for them yet. My new garage build will be starting soon.

Ask the SO man about repo's or trade ins. You can usually get a good deal that way.

The SO guy should be able to give you at least 30% off list for cash upfront in full; if he's not willing to do that, find another dealer.

one thing that might allow such a good deal is that SO HQ probably picks up the discounts and rebates, so the franchisee dealer matains his margin and Ma SO gets the sale, moves inventory, pumps out more units from China finish painted in the US [OK - JUST checking if you were awake MK4], lowers per unit costs on the 90% other boxes it sells close to retail, etc. - I could be wrong...but that would be my guess! - thanks, ED

90 days same as cash, and will be paid off before then. so no interest. like i said before, Have the money for it and good credit, use the credit as a tool, use the cash to buy it. The money is sitting in the bank collecting interest till the 85th day. If I don't have the cash, I am not buying it.

My SO guy in the truck wont do 30%, only a few percent, even for cash payment in full.

Does anyone know of a dealer who will do that deal? I'm in Colorado.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

do you really believe 3% profit margin is acceptable :dunno:. the ONLY way you got that box for 30% off of list was if there was a promo on the box.

krusty is right, The guy is out there busting his hump trying to make a living servicing the shops. I too pay the price. Where I score is on the Promo items, I always ask two things, Whats new, and whats on Promo. If I like it Ill get it on Promo, If I need it I pay the going price. From time to time ill ask for a gimmy item or a hat, shirt or what have you. But I always pay cash or check every week on time (no less than $30 a week), and if I go on vacation, I pay up front the weeks Ill be gone. It keeps him happy and when the big deal comes around I work him over, but he still makes money. Thats how I get 2 new KRL7023's for $4143.50 each with SS top after tax and I still pay Snappy the weekly truck account too.

Anyone know of a dealer who will discount 30% ? I'll pay cash. No brainer for the SO rep. Order a box, no work, no talking, no risk. It's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

I'd be eternally grateful to anyone who can give me lead.

I can give you the number of the dealer I bought my box from, but I don't know if that will do you any good since you're probably not in the Clovis/Fresno area. :dunno:

Thanks! Does that matter? It's drop shipped anyway. It's an easy sale for him, no work. I have no relationship with SO, I'm just a regular guy looking for a box. I am not a customer of anyone here.

Can you PM me with the contact, or talk to him for me?

Thanks for any help.
