Innovative Garage Ideas. Tips for the space we love!

I'm hoping we can use this thread to share great garage ideas with one another, whether it's putting a tennis ball in the right spot so you don't smash your wall or explaining how to properly prepare the room for a floor coating, this is the place we can help one another making YOUR garage a great space for you and your family!

Yeah. Your enthusiasm is fine. That you sell your services is probably okay -- not sure what the owner's position is on this. But you might come across as more credible if you actually read some of the active threads and tried to see if you could be helpful in the discussions before you start a ridiculously-broad catch all thread that makes you look like you're trying to hustle up business.

OK, I'll bite

Put an old fridge in the garage and stock it with beer.
Take that old stereo and hang it from the ceiling.
Put a fair amount of chicks in bikinis on the wall just so the women folk are a little uncomfortable staring at boobies.
Lastly, make a pisser by sticking a funnel in a bucket so you don't have to go inside except to eat and sleep.

As a first post you choose to start this thread? I am curious to see where this goes.

Garage idea #17 - Don't piss on live wires.... in the garage.

tennis ball

My grandfather used to have a totem tennis ball (ball on a string) dangling from the ceiling right above the windscreen. It was positioned so you drive up and stop just as the ball touches the windscreen and this would leave about an inch or two between the front of the car and the garage wall when parking (it was a tight garage).
I assume that is what the original poster was talking about. It isn't pretty and I haven't seen anyone doing that for years.

Make sure you always use PVC for airlines
Wait, never use PVC.

Be sure to put your plugs in upside down.
Only an idiot would do that.

Buy only SnapOn tools
Wait SnapOn is overpriced.

Buy only HF. Anything beyond that is a waste.
If you buy from HF you're a pinko commie and killing our country.

Sears *****. I can't believe I keep going there. I have to complain on the internet after every trip
Hey, I totally scored some made in USA Craftsman stuff on closeout

Hey my hot deal 4 post car lift I bought on Amazon for $4 got cancelled. What gives?

The IR2135TI Max is unquestionably the best impact wrench out there except the SnapOn and Aircat might be better and the HF earthquake might be better than all of them.

WooHoo. She's hot where'd you get that pinup picture from.

Holy **** that ZTFab guy can weld

Jack Olson has deservedly won every award this side of the Nobel Peace prize for the 12-gauge garage.

I'm definitely doing tile, I mean epoxy, I mean polishing the floor. Oh hell, I've spent 500 hours reading and analyzing. I went back to college for a degree in chemistry and I still can't decide.

There. You're all caught up.

I do this. Only I have it set to use hit the windshield instead of the windscreen. :)

They also make lasers to do the same thing now for the New Age group.

Lots of food delivery available, even from the grocery store. And you can scour CL for a couch to sleep on. All the bases are covered then. What more could be needed.

I appreciate all the support I have received from the membership here at the Garage Journal. I feel extremely welcome and hope the warm feelings continue to come in.

So I can set the record straight, I did not promote myself, my company, or any product, I was simply looking for some ideas that I can in turn share with people that I meet and do work for. I am always looking for new ideas, and like to share some innovative ideas with others, so that was the purpose of starting a thread pertaining to this. I went through several threads, and originally found the garage journal years ago. I wanted to be an active member, help other members, and find some new ideas. That's all. As far as preparing a floor before a coating was applied that I mentioned, that was only a demonstration as to the kind of helpful advice I would share with all the thread watchers. I hope this clears up all the sarcasm i received, and maybe we can bounce some ideas around with one another.

Not so fast. This is a shrewd bunch with a very sensitive BS meter. I think you're red lining.

There's an entire subforum devoted to this

just seems to reiterate how you haven't spent 30 seconds considering that you are joining a thriving community which has done quite fine without your omnipotence and leadership for some time now.

Where on this thread did I write that! I was never promoting anything, I just wanted a forum to hear about some new ideas. None of you know a stitch about me. But rush to judgment, solely because I started a thread. Thanks for the warm welcome again.

The entire reason why I stared the thread was because, we are working on a big project (which I cannot get into too much detail about) for the historical society of Canada. I understand many come here to spam, that was not my intention, Solely to get ideas, without jumping into hundreds of threads. I apologize if I've turned on the B.S. meter for the membership here.

We did not rush to judgment because you posted a thread, some of us did that because of the choice of your thread. Your first post reeked of a segway for you to sell your products and or services, and to be honest is showed that you did not spend a whole lot of time reading through the web site or you would probably have picked a better more specific topic.

Had you spent time going over the posts, you would have realized that virtually everything covered under the garage / shop has been discussed in one way or another, we just continue to refine or adjust what has already been said or done.

This is site pretty much like a family gathering, all are welcome, accepted, appreciated, provided they do not try to deceive. Even though you seem to have started out on the wrong foot, because we are family so to speak, we can forgive and forget.

So my suggestion to you is rather than start a thread that would conceivably cover the entire content of this site, you read through the past posts, find the ones that you can contribute to, and add your expertise. That would bring some of the older posts back to the top, and sometimes a different look can help.

I know when I started on this website I spent more than a week looking over the old threads, I read back for a couple of years. That not only helped me gain ton's of knowledge, it also allowed me to be comfortable adding something to the mix when I could.

That's my 2 cents, you got what you paid for.

So I suppose it is common for some immature people here to get into name calling.

Although I know if get into that frame of mind I can definitively make several of you look like idiots, Since, I seem to have a higher degree of self control than most, I will refrain from the childish games that I have been exposed to here on the garage journal in my short time here.

I appreciate the few who have voiced their opinion without crossing lines. But members like bdkruger1, RobSmith, 70redbee, ed_v, NUTTSGT, TN_GARAGE do not know how to welcome a newcomer to this site. I noticed at least a few also were trying to contribute to what I was trying to get at. I am getting feeling that since I started a thread like this that all the wife beaters here seem it's necessary to get aggressive with a new user to the site. Go to therapy or something.

Just because I started a profile a couple of days ago, many of you seem to repeat others saying that I haven't read through some other threads. This is simply not true. And if you read all the posts you would see you are repeating previous posts.

As far as why I can't get into too much detail of a project we are working on, what part of that statement did you not understand PC06! Did you help supe up the little bus that took you to school?

For all that have mentioned some real stupid things about someone you don't know, why hasn't anyone mentioned that we have a great relationship with Ron fellows, that we are supporters of Canada's Motorsport Hall of Fame, or that we have held Canada's largest exotic charity car show? I really seems members would prefer to hassle newcomers, rather than sharing some REAL ideas we can sink our teeth into.

Very disappointing!

Is this really where you wanted to go with your reply?

Dude, here's the thing.....what you were asking about was non-specifc and basically covers the entire purpose of the website. Many of the subforums are dedicated to specific issues. I know you said you read through other posts, but your thread comes across as though you haven't. When you combine that with the fact your a commercial enterprise, surely you can see how it looks bad. From our side of the fence it looks like you just pitched the idea of a search engine to find stuff on the internet to google. You'll find a wealth of knowledge here from some of the top people in numerous industries. Maybe aim before you fire next time and you'll have a much better reception.

I wasn't going to post on this thread at all but I have obviously since changed my mind.

To the OP... the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw your first post was "spammer". That came to me, I think because yours is not the first post that had many of the characteristics of previously deleted posts that where indeed spam. (hope that made sense).

Then after I reviewed your site & a few more posts followed, I got the opinion that you were a legit business person that had stumbled on our little slice of the net & thought you could get us all to use your post to "disclose" our ideas making this a quick & easy one shot place that you could use to pick our collective minds. All for the purpose of getting ideas that you could sell threw your business. Neither of these impressions left me (or obviously others) with a nice warm fuzzy feeling towards you or your business.

I myself along with others here are willing to overlook many things people do ONCE. (some never will... Get use to it!) We all make mistakes! My opinion of people or businesses is greatly influenced by how those mistakes are handled. I am not pretending to be judge jury & executioner here but rather trying to share with you my insight.

There are plenty of other "garage" professionals on this site who are valued members so that has nothing to do with it at all. It all stems from the content of your OP. It seems like there was no investigation of our world done by you at all. That is what prompted the wolves to let loose & I have to admit I have gotten quite a few laughs from the posts that followed your OP.

I would suggest that you take all this as a learning experience & look at the posts here as just what they are. Which I believe to be, humour, help or protection (of our piece of the net). Let this thread go, read threw the site & learn the way this little world works. Then start being a productive member by contributing to what's going on here already. The more you contribute the better your business & you yourself will be received.

I wish you good luck with all your future endeavours, weather the're here or elsewhere. Hopefully you take the advise given here by others as well as myself & become a contributing member of this site. Active, positive, contributing people are always welcome here. I would like to think that your experience & knowledge could be helpful to some here. I think the only way that will ever happen is if you realise that you went about things wrong (oh so very wrong & funny) in the first place. Then take the time & effort to become aaaahhhhh, uuuuummmmm , worthy! YA thats the word that works "WORTHY!

I am trying to decide between mauve or chartreuse for my floor, could either be repatriated later? Is polypropylene OK to hang a tennis ball or should I spend the extra money for nylon?

Your OP opened with ..."I'm hoping we can use this thread to share great garage ideas with one another". That's what most of us have been doing here for several years. Welcome to the forum. What would you like to share with us? Most of us can and have organized our garages fairly well but I'm sure some of us can benefit from your suggestions.

I understood your statement quoted above just fine thanks. It's not clear to me why you raised something you didn't want to talk about. Also, if you want to talk about how I got to school ask a simple question.

Your original question basically asked us to sum up, in a new thread, ideas that you could have easily found on your own. It ended with ... "this is the place we can help one another making YOUR garage a great space for you and your family!" We're doing fine thanks. Welcome to the GJ and I look forward to your contributions.
