I am fairly well versed in metal fab. Not so much in woodworking. I am starting to enjoy woodworking though. I want to build a "built in" in the bedroom with a pull out cabinet for a clothes hamper and shelves above. I have several other projects in mind including some cabinets in the garage, building a dresser one day, and everything in between. I am looking to buy a book or series of books with in depth information in an easy to understand format. Any good suggestions?

Get a subscription to "Family Handyman" they always seem to have projects in it and it's a good mag. I've had a scrip for probably 15 years or so.

I like Family Handyman and Wood Magazine, but the Taunton book on Built-Ins might be a good place to start for these projects. You might look for good information on face frames. Taunton has beginning books on WW that are always well-illustrated.

Yeah, a specific book on cabinets is what I'd get; buy or check out. Generalized carpentry books are just that, too generalized. I have one about joints and joining, that's all that's in it.

Just be sure you reconize the differance between a "rough" and a "finish" carpenter.
You are talking finish. Cabinetry.
Rough, or frameing, carpenters do the "construction" type work.
Joists, sub floors, studs, etc.

You could always watch New Yankee Workshop if its still on. I always learned by watching.

I used to watch This Old House, Home Time, Bob Villa's show and New Yankee Workshop starting when I was a teenager.

I agree with going to a used bookstore. We have Wonder Book and Video here, they have just about any topic you could want. Check in your area for used books and you will find something.

George Nakashima is a legendary woodworker and furniture-maker from Bucks County PA. He wrote The Soul of a Tree, a perfect book for the aspiring cabinetmaker or craftsman. A how-to book that also includes discussion of a more spiritual approach to woodworking that is often developed by dedicated craftsman. A great read for any ability level!
