Ive got an old TM70B that ive had for a while, well today at work it took a dump on me. I was pulling on it pretty hard and it locked up. Tried to pull the cover and its stuck. Soaked it for a few days in PB Blaster but its still stuck on there. So im just gonna warranty it. Ill give it to the snap on man on monday, will they just give me a new one on the spot or is it gonna be a few week process?:(

yea i did that... no go. Ive taken many ratchets apart, many different brands. And when i say it aint coming off....it aint coming off. I want to hear about the ease/difficulty of warrantying a snap on tool.

should be no problem if he cant fix it.

and on a side note. if the cover wont come off. put it in a zip lock bag and hit it on block of wood till it comes off.. it will come.

Hand tools are usually a piece of cake and are fixed on the truck. However it all depends on your dealer. Some people have excellent dealers, others do not. The dealer I have is great about everything.

If you have ANY problems with the dealer, just call the internet warranty. I just got off the phone myself, and all the ladies I have ever spoken to have been nothing but GREAT. There is no better warranty (I did not say dealers!) out there!

Your dealer should either fix it (repair kit) or give you a new one.

You can also send it in to Snap-on for warranty, it may take one to two weeks turn around time.

This right here is the reason a person pays what he pays for SO. To your door service. He should be able to fix the ratchet with his eyes close. If he don't have the right gut kit, new chrome. I have broken my fair number of ratchets and Snappy has never failed to honnor the warranty.

I just had 2 broken torx and 2 mangled deep sockets (probably abused on an impact) replaced no questions asked by a snap on truck that stops where my Dad works (even though my Dad has never purchased anything from him) so from that experience I'm happy with the warranty hahah

on a side note I just got my first snap on ratchet for free with a broken reverse lever, looked up the part online and $0.74 later I have a nice working ratchet!

Doesn't the "B" stand for industrial/government issue or some such? If so, I don't THINK SO has to honor the warranty on it, but I'm prolly wrong lol!

Sometimes the dealer will replace the whole ratchet is worn right out.Had one this way, dealer down the road in my area handed me a new ratchet.Tried installing a new kit, would not fit right.G stands for government on the year mark sheet. There is an E too, stands for emergency. These two were used during WWII.Previous Snap On dealer my father had would not warranty anything worn out, said anything worn out is not covered and I am learning this dealer still does this.

I think the service varies by the truck driver and what he feels like at the time. I had a guy straight deny me once because I wasn't a customer of his...

Tried to pull the cover and its stuck.

If it still don't come off with a magnet, take some locking pliers and lock them on the square drive. Give it a good yank. I usually only have to do this with the older 830s that have the o-ring around the cover plate.

When you loosen the screws all the way just push with the screw driver on the loosened screwheads and that will push the plate lose. That works for me 99% of time the one percenters you just have to find a way. I find very few I can't fix but it happens and I just give a new one in that case.

No the letter at the end of the part # means that a revision has taken place, in this case the second revision , " B ".

A current example of this would be the 1/2" drive dual 80's that now have the screws in the top and the part #'s all end in " A " now.

To the OP , unscrew one of the screws a few turns then try pressing down hard on the other screw as you unscrew it a few turns then do the same to the other screw alternating back and forth.
The screws will push the cover plate right off this way.

Rebuild kits are available for this ratchet so you should be able to keep it going .

i thought i would give an update...i kinda turn the other cheek when i pay for high price snap on tools. I look to work with the best quality i can afford and the warranty keeps me coming back, but the one time i actually have something to warranty the damn snap on man is a no show. I'm about to just mail it in.

If you mail it in you wont get it back.
Since it was your Dad's why dont you just call CS and have them send you a rebuild kit.
Did you ever get it apart to see what was wrong ?
If it is giving you trouble ,clamp the drive lug in a vise.
With the ratchet inline with the vise rock the handle up and down and it will come apart.

The snappy man finally came Monday. I showed it to him he got it apart and the gear inside was stripped of a couple teeth. I told him I would like to have it repaired because of the sentimental value it has being my dads. He said he would get the repair kit and gave me a brand new 1/4 ratchet to use in the mean time. He's a good guy. He also told
Me to keep the new one. He said he also has a lot of his late fathers tools and understands the sentiment in them.
