Wall hanging garage vacuum

I'm looking for a reasonably priced wall mounted vac to mostly deal with car cleaning and light shop cleaning. I'll still have a heavy duty shop vac on hand for bigger jobs. I've found the following three wall mount vacs that fit my budget and they appear similar. They also look like consumer duty types which is OK for me as long as they last a reasonable time before breaking. The Hoover is the price leader and seems popular but the other two have a couple more features like blower mode or wet vac. Blower might be useful for car drying if powerful enough. Curious if anyone has some experience with these to recommend one over the other. Good or bad experience?

Thanks in advance for comments.

No experience with any of them but I like the VacuMaid GV50 (big brother of the GV30). I hope to see some feed back of these also since I need to get one of these soon.

Take a look at the VacMaster. Do a search on here for them too. I love mine. And just bought another VacMaster floor model (6.5 hp). Both of them blow away my Shop Vac and Craftsman models.

I ended up getting the Bissel since it was on sale at a discount store near me for $99. It's not reconditioned either and is new. It works great and I guess the only complaint is the cleaning of the filter. It snaps into a groove and when you take it out, all the dust falls down on your hands and floor. I've found it's better to disconnect the hose and take it off the wall and outside to clean the filter. Other than that it works great and the 30' hose lets me get wherever I need to.

I have a Metro Vac n Blo. It come with 24' of hose, mounts on the wall and has great suction. It's really nicely made too, in the US.

Its not a wet vac, however...but both myself and a friend have one for vacuuming cars, etc, and we're both very pleased. I bought some extra hose for mine so it'll go anywhere in the garage...even the entire upstairs without taking it off the wall.

I've had the Hoover GUV for a few years. Works fine. Only complaints are its pretty loud and the top gets very hot after a few minutes. Other than that, no issues. When / if it dies, I'd probably go with the Metro Vac.

I have the hoover GUV and have nothing but positive things to say about it. I've had it for about 4 years now. It impressed my dad so much a few months ago, that he mentioned he was looking for one. I went ahead and bought him one for xmas and he just raves about it. Quite a bit of nice features, no need to buy bags/filters and it has 30 feet of hose.

There is a filter in the unit, but it is hand washable. Can't go wrong with the GUV.

I also have a Hoover Guv and love it. The 30' hose is very convenient and it has plenty of power. I mostly use it for the interior of the cars and vacuuming my Chocolate Lab.

I have this Rigid model its incredible suction for its size super easy to move off the wall for other use and super long cord. It also has tons of tools that store neatly in the side holders.

I also have the Hoover GUV. It quit shortly after I bought it and the motor was replaced under warranty. It has worked fine now for a few years.

It's loud.

I have the Bissell in the garage, and a blue ShopVac hanging one in the basement shop. The Bissell is great, lots of power, 32' hose, rather quiet. It is lacking a bit in tank capacity, but is easy to empty when hanging. The ShopVac is noisy but gets the job done.

I purchased the Vacumaid Garage Vac about 6 months ago and have been very pleased so far. The hose and accessories are very good quality and the vac unit has plenty of suction even at the end of a 50' hose. :)

So, you guys are saying the Hoover *****?!:willy_nil:lol:

I like the idea of the 50 ft hose on the VacuMaid...but over $200? I don' think so. The Hoover would be fantastic if you could take it off it's mount and use it where you want. Guess I'll keep looking.

Easy fix for this.

Put a small shelf under the canister, just big enough to set the canister on about 6 inches (depending on the filter size) below. This will allow you to disconnect the canister and set it on the shelf.

That way when you remove the filter, most of the junk falls into the canister and not the floor.

So I decided to go with the Bissell Garage Pro since it had decent reviews and had the blower function plus water pickup and reusable filters. I like the idea of not having to buy proprietary disposable filters. There is someone on ebay selling 3 new in the box Bissells for $129 delivered so that tipped the scale in it's favor and I purchased one. As to the other choices, I really liked the Hoover GUV and VacuMaid but they didn't have all the features I was looking for although I could have made do with either one. I had a ShopVac hangup model before and found the suction lacking and then the motor crapped out which made me leary of trying them again. The Rigid models a couple of people mentioned are not available anymore.

Anyone ever semi-permanently mounted a shop vac as a central garage system?

Thinking of plumbing it outside to a lean-to type shed with the compressor, then running PVC drops like a central vac - with a simple on/off switch on the wall... Then I can run some semi-permanent connections to the mess-makers, and have a couple ports for general cleanup...

Anybody know where to get one of these or how much they typically go for? Can't seem to find one for sale online?

Every time I go to Amazon and read the reviews on products suggested, someone on there just rips them a new ***, no matter what product you look up. Every vacuum listed has somebody who thinks the hose is too small, not enough suction, wants one that comes off the wall, etc.

OOPS, just did a search on the Vacumaid and it had all 5 star reviews, not a negative remark to be found.

This is the setup I have in my garage....
http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/WD5500-Wall-Vac/index.htm
I replaced the included hose with this one which seems a whole lot more durable...

I would not hesitate to purchase another Rigid.
Anybody know where I can buy one of these Ridged Vacs? I can't find one anywhere? If you're local HD still has them, I would be happy to pay someone a finders fee to buy and one and ship it to me on my dime. Thanks

Well I broke down and bought the Bissel Pro, $159.00. I ordered it yesterday and should be at my door sometime this afternoon. I am off on Friday soo a nice little project to do. I almost bought the Vacmaster but I did not like 20" hanging off the wall. Some locations it might work but not where I plan on mounting it.

Yep that would be basically the same as what I have 'cept in blue..........and mine is 4hp......Jim

If it was "4hp" it would have to have a 240V circuit....

It's not really 4 HP, they just have shyster means to rate them that way.

I have had the GarageVac from Intervac for about 1 1/2 and I am extremely pleased. I like the fact that has a bag that is replaceable and the 40' crush proof hose has worked great. I have been meaning to write a review but haven't gotten around to it. It is close the the hoover version on price.
