I get a kick out of old ads that show a guy working in his workshop while wearing a sweater and a tie. Sometimes they're also smoking a pipe. :)

From The Commercial Motor, 31st October 1958, p 47 (corrected copy) http://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/31st-october-1958/47/attractive-shelters:
Cartridge Motors: FEATURE of a two-speed ½ - ¾ -in. electric drill produced by S. N. Bridges and Co., Ltd., York Road, London, S.W.11, is a motor of the cartridge type. Many kinds of drill have the field coils directly attached to their casings, and the company claim that by making the motor for their appliance a separate unit, it is possible for quick replacements to be made should a failure occur; also that because the clearance between the armature and the coils can be smaller than is possible with the other method of construction, a greater amount of power is developed.
A green light—an accessory known as the Neonic safety eye—fails to illuminate should the earth connection be faulty or wrong polarity occur. Spade and breast plate are fitted as standard. The price of the drill is £24 18s. 6d. High speed is 670 r.p.m. and low speed 390 r.p.m.
