My wife and I bought our first home almost a year ago now, after working on things inside the house I have finally been able to start work in the garage. Trying to do most of everything on a budget so I pick things up when I can. Our house was built in the 30s in Long Beach CA so thats what I have to start with. Prior to all of these we upgraded our electircal panel so when they did that I had them break off the garage (the Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room and Garage were all on the same breaker!!) and added a 30 amp sub-Panel into the garage as well as added two 4ft florescent lights. I will start with a basic before picture:
This first one is just empty, we had thrown up some primer as most of the garage was different colors. This gave it a somewhat uniform look to it.
I always wanted those nice epoxy floors so I got myself an expoy-coat kit and got free shipping for being a member of this forum. I was really worried about messing it up but after prepping the floor it went down really easy. I was really happy with the way it came out, it looks 1000x better than it did before.
I picked a 3 color flake, Purple, Yellow and White (Yup that's right LA Lakers colors!!) here is a close up.
Next my Dad got some new Cabinets for his garage so he gave me his old ones. Put those up and also got a utility sink and at least put that in the garage (its not hooked up yet but one thing at a time).
My Dad is a manager at Lowes so whenever he comes across clearance items he always lets me know. I picked up three 6ft cabinets for $20.00 a pop. Putting two in the garage and one in our back office.
Then this past weekend I started building my workbench. I am no carpenter artisan so its just a simple workbench that works for me. I've got one piece built and will next build a second smaller bench that is next to the sink. The second one is going to be on wheels and will latch to the wall normally but you can then unlatch it and move it around as needed.
Thats it so far I am really happy with the way its coming along, still have a lot of work to do but its my own garage and wanted to share with every as I have been admiring everyone else's garage on here. I'll keep it updated as I keep going with it.
