I managed to pick up a used ingersoll rand 2135timax. I went to the IR web page and was hoping to ge an owners manaul. No luck on finding one.

If some one has a link to one that would be great.

On amazon when I looked at thing buy when they buy the gun the list a grease kit. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E0TC82/?tag=atomicindus08-20

How often should I be using it? I think I found the hole to use to grease it but how do you tell you have put in enought? Thanks John

If you use it a lot you should oil it daily. Greasing is every 48 hours of use or something. Before you grease it spin the anvil by hand, do a couple pumps of grease and check it again. You basically stop when you feel a slight amount of drag.

The manual is pretty useless, it doesn't offer any detailed instructions.

If you plan to remove the front of the tool to grease the mechanism then the IR105 you found is the right stuff, if you want to grease it through the fitting in the front end use IR115

http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-Rand-115-LBK1-Lube-Impact-Tools/dp/B000K1CDK4/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1333658463&sr=1-2

Under heavy use you could regrease every week but in most cases you can go much longer. If you rotate the anvil quickly by hand and it produces a metallic sound you should add grease.

Why use a different type grease if using the grease fitting; do they include the same pump mechanism? Here are the details for the IR115:

  • Keeps IR 2131, IR 2131S-2, IR 2112, IR 2141 impact tool in top condition
  • Includes: 4 oz. air impact gun grease, grease tube injector gun, 4 oz. air tool oil
  • For all other Ingersol Rand impact wrenches use the IR 105LBK1 lube kit

IR115 is not quite as thick as 105 and is better for th fittings located on the front of the composite tools. 105 can be used on the fitting on the back of a 231 with thru feed lube.

Which one is better for the gun? If the IR115 is thicker but works better, then I wouldn't mind taking my 2135 apart.

Thanks for all the impute/help. I have a found a tip that will fit my grease gun the will work to fill it. What grease would all recommend using or should I go with any grease is better than no grease. Also I was thinking about using Stanley bostitch oil to lubricate it via the air line. Again as long as you keep oiling that is better than no oil at all. I guess I am concerned about not using ingersoll rand brand oil/grease and does it really matter. Thanks John

I'd recommend you use the IR115. A lot of testing was done on many different greases to determine what lasted the longest and protected the parts the best. You also do not have to worry about the grease you are putting in not being compatible with what is already in there.

When you take the tool apart it allows you to get the grease where it needs to be faster than injecting it through the fitting and allowing it to flow where it needs to be but either way will get the job done.

Make sure to grease it pretty regularly, I take the nose cone off of my older IR once a month and grease the hammer mechanism with an acid brush. I good indicater that it needs grease is that it will start vibrating a lot more than normal. I also like to wd-40 the **** out of the motor veins during the monthly service. Happy hammerin!
