but after looking at the Williams sets and their price...
Its hard to argue with that.
Snap-On in cheap clothes.

I have Wera...I have Felo...I have Wiha... I have SK. Of the four, SK made by facom I believe they are now the Stanley FATMAX in europe...I forget the company makes them for SK, Stanley and a few others, but you can get the SK ones on ebay and other places... If you want the Stanley version look here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000WCI2TC/?tag=atomicindustr-21

The SK ones feels best in my hand...

The Wiha are the heavy duty, so not 1 to 1 comparison.

what would it be?

For toughness and good value I'd go with Williams.

For precision I'd go with PB Swiss.

If you view screwdrivers as a consumable and want to swap them out from time to time then I'd get Craftsman Professionals.

P.S.
I just rec'd the $18 set of Felo's from Rockler and they look very well made but I'd put them in the precision category vs. the tough/abuse tolerant category

Do you like the Felos? Worth the price. I ordered 3 sets but our shipping/receiving department has lost them and I'm contemplating ordering the parts again (at normal price) and sticking them with the bill.

I haven't used them much but they seem very well made. The handles feel great and the shanks/tips look very well machined. They have bolsters on them for a little extra torque. 9 assorted drivers for $18 shipped was a killer deal IMHO!!

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these Felo's for homeowners or those who want a quality/precision German made screwdriver.

However I would not recommend these for tough jobs (like automotive) or occasional abuse. I don't think those handles would hold up to abuse and being beat on like the Williams. (not that we ever beat on screwdrivers!!)

There are so many good screwdriver sets on the market it is hard to choose. On the other hand, to me screwdriver sets are almost a thing of the past. 95% of my screwdriver work is done with a SO ratching screwdriver and the appropriate tip.

The one thing that bugs me about most screwdrivers sets, especially the ones from Germany, is how most of them lean towards the flatblade screwdrivers meaning a typical set of 6 comes with 4 flatblades and 2 phillips models. I don't know about you guys but I rarely run across flathead screws any more. It's seems most of the times I use flat blade screwdrivers any more it's as a prying or leverage device.

To more directly answer your question, cuurently my best set is a set of SO hardhandles (like the Willaims shown above) but if I was buying a new set today, money no object, I would get the new SO Softgrip Instinct handles like this set... http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=hand&item_ID=645276&group_ID=682253&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog to which I would add this set... http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=682253&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog and this set http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=hand&item_ID=646427&group_ID=682253&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

I got my set yesterday, and they really are nice. The squishy handles feel really good, but I would tend to agree about with your statement. I have a full set of SO's that I love, and they are tough. Thoud I'm sure the shanks on the Felos are plenty strong. The handles just seem like they could tear kinda easy compared to a normal handle. I keep my SO's in my roll cab, and have junk screwdrivers in my service cart, so the Felo's will prolly end up there.

Yeah the first link you posted is the set I have, and I love them. I have that, and the 4 piece mini set. I have needed the long ones yet, but I will prolly get them at some point.

I have various types of drivers from Bahco, CM, Kobalt, SK, Stanley Plus, Wera, and Wiha. I like my Wera's the best.

Those handles look a lot like Bahco's.

Honestly the cheap basic c-mans work fine for me. If not them, then a basic no name china screw driver is fine. I have never ruined a fastener with a basic no name screw driver; as long as I was using the correct size. Hard for me to justify spending money on screw drivers that cost more than c-mans on black friday.

and from the pictures I've seen

some of you never use your expensive screwdrivers (or most of your tools) as they are all shiny and pretty

I like the snap-on the best. Warranty is why. I have 5 trucks to pick and choose from to get any tool warranted.
Price wise, I have to go with 9250's recommendation on the Williams sets.
Looks, gotta give that to Wera hands down. Who doesn't like the spiderweb look and in different colors to boot.
Dream set, but I will never pay that much for them, Ducks unlimited special edition snap-on or the 1977 Pearl White with red lettering hard handle set, or the 1980 Racing edition in Green.
My daily users. Snap-on Green hard and soft grip instinct sets. Why? Green has been my color since I was able to understand that it will both get you what you want and need in this world.

Do snap-on dealers sell williams stuff? Or would I have to get it off the internet? That screwdriver set looks like a pretty good deal.

Some will carry them, albeit they are only allowed to carry a % of non-snap-on stuff on the truck. Most dealers will not, as it takes big bucks away from them, however dealers in hard market areas, ( where money is scarce), will carry alternatives as they still gotta put food on the table too. Internet is the best choice. I do not have a link for you, but I am sure amazon.com has them for less than the eBay link 9250 provided.

Nobody likes the Proto's huh?

I tell you what, with the tri-lobe handle shape and those grippy rubber wings, you can get some serious leverage out of them. :)

I would (and likely will) build a collection around this heavy duty Wiha set:

http://www.all-spec.com/products/53099.html

I like that they are HD, have a wrench shank, and a striking cap. Makes them very versitile and attractive to me. I'd add others around this set.

I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the sets mentioned although I know that some will have a better hand then others -- personal pref.
