I thought I would share my latest addition to my workshop, I have been looking for a while for a 6inch vice that opens wider than most, something old and in need of a tidy, although I have a vice,
And I recently found an ad on the internet,it said heavy duty vice, from a barn clearout, Free, but must go today, well I was in the car and gone, although it was an hours drive, in the middle of the country side, and now I have it,
A Made in England, Record Vice no36.
check out the picture. I will be adding more pictures soon,

After a few hours work with a wire brush attachment in my drill, and some sanding blocks, the vice was ready for paint,
But first the mechanical side of things was checked and all sorted out, and the quick release mechanism works realy well, and nicely greased up,
Then I undercoated the whole vice with rustoleum etch primer and rust treatment, then 3 coats of my favorate high gloss red.

Great score! It cleaned up real nice. What is the piece of metal around the handle area. I haven't seen one like that before. I've seen Records before just not that piece.

Thank you,
The peice of metal near / around the handle is a quick release lever, just squeeze it and you can move the whole vice jaws fully extended etc, real quick operation, so you do not have to turn the handle so much, and it works well,

RED?????? Records were blue....

The original colour would have been flat royal blue, but as with everything in my workshop is based on a gloss red theme, red it went, however if I was restoring it for a customer or workshop musuem, then I would have colour matched it to an original scheme,
