That is a fantastic tool box, I love it, great find and well done, I would really like to find another one like that, that is just how I like them, did you see my thread , the 1947 snap on tool box , looks similer to yours, that was a full on restoration aswell,
I have restored many of these, as with the paint, snap on have over 1000 red paint codes ,depending on the year of manufacture, to find the date on yours, normally it is stamped on the drawer runners,
the earler snap on boxes paint code was, SO and year of manufatcture SO1947,
Also 1946 to 1955 they where called they paint SUNBURST ORANGE RED, and hand painted to a sheen finish, hope this has helped,

I forgot to mention, although I had a few legal problems eithin the trade industry, with leaking the common trade paint colour by its real name on other forums, I can not state that the common vintage s o paint shade is actaully P O P P Y R E D,

I just checked the drawer runners and coupd not see anything,it was repainted apparently, how deep os the stamping of the serial numbers? Is it supposed to be on every drawer runner or just one specifically? If so where on the drawer runner? Do i have to take the drawer off to see it? I checked every drawer to no avail, can you show me a picture of what im looking for?

can't wait to see the finished project..

Im working on it.anyone have links to bi-color combinations for box and drawers that look cool. I was thinking red dupont as in this threads resto but with black drawers and the inside of drawers silver.
Ive seen a baby blue almost like old chevys that looked great and a light blue and seafoam green thread on here or garage journal but i cant find the thread for the life of me.

Anyone who has a cool color combo please post pic here and if i like it i will paint that color combo.

Thanks in advance.

P.s. im still trying to find a single link showing where exactly the serial# is in my k56 and kr420
When finished i will be selling for reasonable price

Alright, I FINALLY made the time to finish my box.....

I painted the drawers last year, bought some black rubber floor runner and cut it to fit the drawers with a mat cutter so they are square and true.

The badge was blasted, primered, painted black then filled the letters with orange paint and finally the raised portions were scraped with a sharp edge to reveal clean metal.

The hinge was bad so I bought a replacement and pop riveted instead of spot welding it to the box.

Since the paint sat for a year it was a bit gloopy and thick so did not spray well. The final coat is good but not great. Good enough, it is a just a tool box. Now to fill it up and put it to use.
