So I have high hopes for the garage, which I've basically saved for last. Sketches to come of how I want to reconfigure the toolchest and overhead cabinets; I want honest opinions. I've also been reading the flooring forum, and it looks like I'm going to need to rent a diamond sander to get the old paint up off the floor...

Very nice job on the home remodel but you need a VW emblem painted or hung right above the TV (actually just paint that hood in the garage and mount that.
I really like the clearstory windows on the shed ( I used plexiglass 4"x11.5" on mine) and the repurposed kithen cabs look great.

Nice clean look to your projects!

I like your home-made version of the Modern-Shed, I REALLY like the storage unit roll up door.

The door came from Menards, and if I could have settled for a stock size and white, I could have walked out the door with one for $159. As I wanted a custom size and color, I had to wait a month or so, and pay $179; not too bad in my book.

instead of start an extra thread in the flooring section too soon, I thought I'd give a shot of asking here; also, I feel like I know the answer. I think I need to rent a floor maintainer with a diamond disc to get this all cleaned up. what do I do to it after the paint is removed?

any idea what product might be on the floor already? I did the below with my dealt grinder

to grind it myself, the tool rental will total over $550, plus the rental of a truck to get it home. a professional concrete polishing guy quoted me $2500 just to grind it down, a little less if he could get to 220v; I was floored! I wasn't expexting dirt cheap, but on the phone he said a mid-range job would run $6sqrft; and that was grind + polish!

Try home depot rental section. The orbital walk behind polishers ( I am probably calling this the wrong thing but you get the idea I hope) also can be used with a scraping disc for the same effect for much less.

Before you do that though also go talk with a sherwin Williams paint store ( or comparable) and see if they have an acid product that will peel it away chemically. Several people mentioned this to me after I had scraped 1700 sq ft of paint off of the foundation floor of the last house we gutted. Do the research first

This was our final result after two years of remodeling.

Good looking work. I love the gray color of your cabinents out in the garage. Its funny I have several of those pepsi wooden containers I use to hold stuff out in the garage and hadn't thought about using inside. I would also suggest that you put a faucet on that sink as it makes it easier to direct the water.

I painted everything and added trim. The way the cabinets were bothered me, so I rebuilt and rehung all of them. New doors make a huge difference.

I'm thinking a secondary garage is next. I had a builder quote a 20x20 complete for $15k, which leads me to believe I could go a little bigger, and build for a little less. Storage for the beetle and it's parts + one other car. I think I'd like to match the style of the shed, but stay a little more conservative in the siding department.

Wow man my compliments on everything :thumbup::thumbup:

That's a fantastic place you have there, everything the house, the garage and everything you have done to the place.

I've never seen this thread before but I'm glad I found it. You gave me inspiration.

I especially like the color green you used on your garage cabinets.
My hanging cabinets will be red and the rest of the cabinets under the workbench will be green like yours.
You gave me an idea of how it will look like, thanks for sharing.

Well, I've been waiting to do this for a long time. I finally got around to drafting up what I want, and have found contractors to help me with what I cant. Actual pictures to come eventually:
