Yeah, they both look nice,
Bosch 18 volt your looking at around 300.00
Was looking at a dewalt on lowes website,18 volt, about $110.00, No battery.
I have a 18 volt dewalt drill, think there Ni Cad batteries, hardly used,
(The one Ace hardware had a few years ago with rebate for $100.00)
The chuck is slipping,Not sure if the batteries will fit.
this is it here, I think My batteries will fit.

All 18v NiCad/Lithium Ion Dewalt Batteries are interchangeable besides a very select few.:thumbup:

I have that Dewalt you are looking at. I would rate it right around 80 lb/ft on a fresh battery. its not the best but pretty good medium duty gun. I want the bosch but being as expensive as it is, I am holding out

I have the Bosch as well. I'm very pleased with it and use it daily. I would buy it again. In fact I've been thinking about picking up another one for the house as I already have a 1/2 bosch cordless drill at home. If you ever want a 1/2 as well the Bosch 1/2 is great as well.

If you need power from an impact, use an impact adapter and a 1/2" drive cordless. If cordless isn't a necessity, use an air impact. Power and cordless comes with a price. I haven't seen any real powerful cordless impacts in a 3/8" drive. What torque range are you looking for? That will give us a better idea of what to recommend to you.

For 3/8" cordless impacts, they need to be powerful enough to remove average lug nuts or I don't bother using them. Not saying I use them for lug nuts, but that is a good standard for power level, and that power isn't cheap. The Snap-on CT4410 is my favorite, but I also have a Cornwell Li-Ion 14v that is very good and a little less expensive.

On the mac truck I saw they had a kit deal, A lithium ion drill and 3/8 combo set. May be a good idea, I think it was only like 150.

http://www.amazon.com/Makita-LXDT01-Cordless-Brushless-Impact/dp/B005CQ1N80

makita brushless (link is for version with 1/4 quick chuck) mine came with 3/8 anvil but i bought it off the tool truck

hands down the most powerful cordless i have ever used

one of my friends works in a engine rebuild shop and he uses his to pull head and main bolts

I have the brushed makita impact driver(the one with the 1/4" hex chuck), and for its weight and size it is awesome. I dont have the 3/8 impact yet but the 3/8 has more than 40 ft/lbs more torque than the 1/4" and I use the 1/4 to take off almost anything under about 13-14 mm(rust and all). It aint gonna be THE most powerful 3/8 impact on the market. but all things considered(weight, size, power, battery, and PRICE) this is the way to go

OK, I got the driver today; Question, will the 18V charger we have at work for our lithium ion batteries be OK to charge my nickel cadmium batteries, or do I need to bring the charger I have here into work.

unless it says that it will do both, you NEED the different charger.

No, my mistake, the ones at work are nickel cadmium batteries too, so I can use one of those chargers.

well, went with the bare bones dewalt 18 volt.
http://www.lowes.com/webapp/wcs/sto...=10151&catalogId=10051&productId=3191637&cId=

Got it from Amazon for $102.00&free shipping.
Let you know how it works.

Seems to have plenty of power for what I need.
Don't know about taking off lug nuts power, but still plenty of power for what we do.
Rusty bolts the milwaukee would stall on, this buzzes right off.
5/16" lock nuts that the milwaukee tightened, then stalled the gun, could be tightened more with a 3/8" drive ratchet. Using the Dewalt, the lock nuts were fully tight.

I have the Milwaukee 18v lithium and I love it. Got the impact and drill driver package on amazon. They are introducing a new brushless dc design so you Might be able to find the older model on clearance somewhere. It will be well worth it.

OK so I finally plunged on the bosch 3/8 with the $40 off of 200 purchase and the 2 additional slim packs via mail from Bosch I figured now was the time to treat myself to something I have been wanting for a while.

so IWH181-01 came in the mail, first thing on AMazon they just copy and paste the specs from the 1/2 inch and make you think it has 500 ft/lbs which I know it didn't I figured real world would be 125-200 and it should be a monster for the size. being me, I popped open the package, held the gun, felt like expected didn't really blow me away. put the fat pack on the 30 min charger while I was doing other things I needed to do. came back when it was charged, and well duh, I had to try it out on something. pulled the trigger and it really didn't seem like it was a screamer, but oh well real world will tell :) put a MAC 19mm deep well 3/8 impact socket on it, walked over to the wife's 2010 Civic and proceeded to remove a lug nut, hammered for a couple seconds and then spun it off. so I tighten that one back on and go to remove another one, it just hammers for like 10 seconds and it is pretty loud and will not remove the 2nd lug nut. hmmm. ok, well I know I put the wheels on at my shop and I don't remember if I used a TQ sticker or just hammered them on or what. so I pulled out my dewalt DC823 put a LI-Ion dc9181 (non XRP) battery on that I had laying around on my sawzall, so not even a fresh charged one and put the socket on it, and tried to take the lug nut off and it spun right off. put that one back on, tightened the other one more, and tried the bosch on a couple different ones, some it struggled and took off after hammering on, but the Dewalt took any of them pretty much right off and tightened them more.

my initial dewalt review (i unscientifically tested it to be around 80 ft/lbs i figured) maybe is more like the real 125+ they claim, was clouded by wanting the bosch so badly and thinking it was going to be so damned good. well IMO the Dewalt is better. for some reason the dc823 only comes bare or with the old batteries. I see there is also a 20volt 3/8 cordless that would be nice to try but I just saw the brushless tools starting to be listed on the site as well.

so unless you have bosch batteries and a full selection of bosch tools already and can buy the bare tool just to have it, get the dewalt because I find most people that have had cordless tools for any time period have some dewalt batteries.

is there a king of 3/8 impacts hiding somewhere? Snap on, Matco, Milwaukee? cost too much money to try them all. what is the best way to test them? torque a lug nut to 140 and see if we can get them off? hammer a lug nut on and see what it reads on a torque wrench?

sorry this was long winded and probably run on with poor punctuation, but I am not a pro reviewer just a working man trying to get some good tools with hard earned $

any new reviews of 3/8 impacts?

am tempted to pull the trigger on the dewalt 12v max 3/8 impact wrench for my everyday automotive work stuff and then later add on the new 20v max 3/8 or 1/2 when they come out or the brushless hex driver... choices
