Well, I was wrong. And what my rep told me is not true, so my next call will be to him:rant:. Right now I have a little less faith in him. I had called him before I made that post so I would have facts....WRONG!

Just got off the phone with the company that supplies that line of tools to NAPA.
Apex Corp. which is a division of Armstrong sources these out of...get this China! And...And! I found a way myself via through our system, to find out the country of origin...So I call Apex to verify this. The lady says Taiwan. I asked her, "are you sure it's not China?" She says "its the same thing, It's imported". She also thought Taiwan was in China. I had to explain to her there is a difference and which is it China or Taiwan? After what seemed to be 5 minutes of silence, (had to ask if she was still there) she came back with China...I asked if she was sure, and a little huffy voice said yes:D

And the way we warranty these:
We call Apex and they send out the individual socket, wrench or what have you at no charge.

Sorry for the wrong info...I just was telling you what my rep had told me.
Now off to make that phone call to him:mad:

I have those NAPA metric long pattern wrenches from Crip, and they are from Taiwan, not China.

Just fyi, the sets pictured aren't made in USA. Individual replacement sockets and wrenches aren't available yet for these sets, they're completely different from the NHT USA stuff, and the evercraft stuff.

I agree with that. Most Napa tools are NOT MADE IN USA now, most are Taiwan made and some German made screwdrivers by Witte. As long as they cover the warranty, I guess its fine.

Popstage - Thanks for following up. So they are definitely not American made (not surprising considering the price) but do we have a clear answer on whether these are Chinese or Taiwanese? From the pics, they look almost too nice to be Chinese COO?

Oh well, not as great of a deal as I was hoping for but still a fair price and the tools should be fine for what I'll be using them for.

So some of the Danaher NHT line is made in China?

Talking to my rep while running some numbers from the book through my system, the short answer seems to be yes.

After schooling my rep on his products...yea, i had asked him again if all of the NHT lines are made in USA he said yes.
But in fact by putting some of those numbers through our NAPA system shows most of the NHT is USA made but not all. I've noticed more so in the NHT impact line that a few #'s are made in Taiwan.
And it looks like most of the NPT line is made in Taiwan.

You ask a very confusing question when you include the Danaher name with NHT.So again, I called The Apex group which btw was formally Danaher, (Danaher is now gone) and they did say some of the Danaher tools were sourced out.
They said if you want a brand of tools under the Apex group that are exclusively made in the USA it is Armstrong.

My rep says he learned something today...me too;)

Hope that helps!

Oh, and if anyone wants to know where anything we sell through NAPA is made, let me know...it's just a cick away.

Ah ok, sorry about the "Danaher NHT" thing.

So these are NHT sets that happen to be made in China. I'm ok with that. Regardless of where they came from, they're still seriously nice, and are a bargain through Cripe. :)

I have a metric set and inch pattern set of NAPA combinations, metrics are stamped "NDM" (19mm is NDM 59) and inch "NDF" (7/8" is NDF 64). I'm curious now, where were these made? They're nothing fancy but I really do like them a lot, they work very well, are extremely durable, and I love the textured finish (I wish I could have gotten my Snap-On Flank Drive Plus set in that same finish).

popstage2, I didn't mean to cause you any grief, I've been with napa nearly 5 years and have been slowly watching the transition away from USA stuff. I had ordered in the 3/8 62pc set at my own store to look at and I was disappointed to see china on it.

Then the fact that I can get it from cripe cheaper than my own cost, something seems wrong with that.

I havent really seen many USA hand tools with napa name on them in a few years now. We used to get US made stuff at work sometimes for the track crew but now all I see is chinese junk.

No grief here...it's all good.
Yep, we are 6 years old here, but been in the auto parts business since I was 14 years old.
It was a failing store when we bought it. Now it's an amazing numbers store. Five Star status for the second time this year...it's been fun and don't mind the 12 hr days.

Did you notice the brake rotors are little by little coming in "made in USA"? But still about 70% are made in China...

I don't know that i would call these sets "junk"... They're a HUGE step up from the Craftsman USA stuff i have. If there was a matching 1/2" drive set, i would get it and sell all of my Craftsman stuff.

I ended up ordering 2 of the 3/8 sets, 1 of the 1/4 sets and one additional item and the total shipping came to $31.29 for a $105 order. I guess that's not horrible considering the weight but I am spoiled by all the free shipping offers out there

Was your order $105 before shipping? Just curious since I am pricing out my sets too. I am looking at a set of each 1/4" and 3/8" and a 3/8" breaker bar.

So are these still a good deal now that we know they are made in China? I don't know what it is about that phrase, but when I hear it it makes me shy away. Even though this set is still a great deal, now that I know it is made in China vs taiwan or elsewhere, it makes it harder to buy.

I think you are over thinking the purchase way too much. They fit well, have really nice chrome, and appear to be high quality steel. Your'e getting a decent set at bottom of the barrel prices so its a good deal. Now that I know they are China made not Taiwan doesn't make want to go out and throw them in the scrap heap, they are still the same sockets. If I paid tool truck prices for the set I would be upset because some executive lined their pockets on some kids slave labor but at $35 + shipping for a set, cripe isn't driving around in a new bentley just yet.

True points. It is a lot of tools for the money, I was looking at 3/8" drive sets and a Duralast 50 pc set popped up online for $48, and didn't have as many sockets or as nice of a finish (as best I could tell online). I just need to place my damn order and stop worrying about it.
