Who knows?
Stuff like this should be required reading in high school.

Yeah man, but I think less than half of them would even give a damn.
We've got kids where I'm at that don't know what Pearl Harbor is. And flat out refuse to believe the Holocaust even happened. They're more concerned with updating their "Status" on Facebook and Twitter.

Stories like these make me want to become a physical theraphyist. My uncle is a retired AF COL, he works in DC and spends alot of time at Walter Reed hanging out with our recovering men and women, he said during Bush's Presidency he was in there alot, he would get the the hospital and they wouldn't let him in because the POTUS was there. No media no cameras just MR and MRS Bush. Wonder how many times Barrack has been there? It's very aggrevating to hear friends and family havn't heard of this story. Like some one said above, it's a shame....
CPL Nicely has contacted SSG MIlls family, i'm sure they'll end up working together through his recovery.

backintheday, I'm not trying to contrast you at all. I know for sure that 43 spent a lot more time there than 44, but my buddy actually got his PH presented to him last month by the CIC himself. I'm pretty sure he didn't expect it either because he was wearing a beanie and a t shirt that read "if you keep staring, they may grow back". He lost both his legs from knee down on Feb 19th in Afghanistan. He also met SFC Petry, MOH recipient and Col. Oliver North during his stay there.

Michelle Obama, I must say, really is setting a high standard for raising awareness of military families. She really is great when it comes to that. I was fortunate enough to be stationed at MCBH (Kaneohe Bay Hawaii USMC) and the first family vacations to HI every year for Christmas. As much as a pain in the *** it creates for those of use that call MCBH home, her efforts alone are really to be commended. I returned from Afghanistan Dec 7, 2010 and on Christmas Day three weeks later, my gunner and some other guys got pictures with the first lady in the chow hall. She didn't come on base and go to the O-Club to meet high ranking officers, she went to the chow hall and came directly into the section rated Sgt and below and didn't turn a single Marine or Sailor away once. A real class act.

My opinion, it's the problems with todays schools, they're so worried about getting kids to college (that's another story for me) and passing state tests to get federal money that they fail to teach kids about our prestigous history.

In the UK we have a really well known charity which has the support of big business and the media, they do amazing things for badly wounded servicemen. I hope this young man overcomes his troubles and goes on to have a good life despite his injuries.

http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/

There are a couple charitys coming together to build SSG MIlls a smart home, all voice activated technology. If there is one good thing that came out of these recent wars it's the medical technology. We have made huge progress in many feilds.
