Beerdog, that would have been a good deal on the box alone!

Venture, are those big German wrenches Hazet? I picked up a little Hazet 10 X 13 mm DOE and a 100 ft Lufkin steel tape for $3 this am.

I finally decided to venture out on a sunday and take a look at some sales. I saw one that started on friday and mentioned "workshop" in the ad. It had been gnawing away at me for some time so the woman and i decided to take a sunday drive to see what was there.

The tool selection wasn't too bad and i even picked up a vise!

The claw hammer is Vlchek, so is the ratchet. The ball peen hammer is a Plumb and the like new screwdriver is a craftsman

The second stop produced a very neat and possibly home made tool. I've looked it over and couldn't find a single makers mark so its my best guess.

I think its an inclinemeter but i could be wrong. If anyone has a better guess, let me know.

The razor knife is made of cast iron and though it looked neat. Anther member posted the exact same knife that he bought yesterday.

The other side is stamped 2lbs

LOL.
That would = 32 oz hammer.

Pint's a pound the world around. (well except an Imperial pint...)

16oz = pint/pound.
32 oz = 2 pounds.

Still the world-around no matter where ya are---even in Cali.
LOL.

I need first hand experience and personal opinion about old wrenches. When I say old I think on period before let"s say 1970, or on period when manufacturers where not owned by corporations. I was on "Alloy Artifacts" web page and it is very informative. But I need your opinion which wrenhes are top quality products and which are average and which better to avoid.
I have no acces to old american wrenches that is why I am asking you.
Thank you on any useful info.

I knew it was a 32oz hammer. I've seen hammers marked either way and this one happened to be marked 2 lbs.

I gave Outlaw a 50+ ounce Ball Peen hammer a few months ago and i think it was marked 3 lbs, even though it would only be a 48oz.

Empire mini combo square to match my 16 inch, cool.
I don't know what the multimeter thing is even for.

I also found this old dremel. Lady wanted 2 bucks for it. I just wanted all the high speed cutters I saw in the case.

Does anyone know where the Penske tools were sold and when? I'd guess 1980s in Kmart (because of the Penske auto centers), but I don't really know. I see timing lights and multimeters around pretty regularly, did anything else have the brand on it?

Penske was affiliated with Sears for some time; don't know how long:

Well, this is what the timing light says on it

Okay, noob question time. This mm enables me to put the jaws around a cable and measure amperage and voltage without touching copper, is that what the hoopla is?

You need to track down a manual for the MM, but it will likely only measure amps without contact, and only if you have one wire of the pair running through the Jaws...

Just got the manual downloaded. You're saying I would have to seperate 1 wire out of the 3 in a power cord (for example) to measure current?

Ok, I'll play :)

Small estate sale this weekend. I always wait until late on the second day when everything is 50% , and 'volume pricing' is in effect. I know I miss lots of good stuff, but I STILL manage to take home lots of goodies!

For $15 here's the list:

Craftsman/ Dunlop 30's era scrollsaw model 103.2179
Companion #4 buffer/ 4" grinder arbor, and new wheel
Big old hacksaw
small sledgehammer, big tack hammer, tiny claw hammer
old jab saw/ keyhole saw
trowel
chineeese pvc cutter
old sanding block
tool supports for a grinder (probably NOT the companion, not any of my baldours either)
"AC" made in USA socket (13/16, spark plug?)
Proto deep socket
3/8 drive 3/8" craftsman ==v== socket
made in US and germany small wrenches
big allen key with springloaded ball catches
big '4 in hand' still sharp
craftsman copy screwdriver
awesome multi-pound cast iron 3M tape dispenser (4 inch rolls)
stanley knife
mini stanley framing square
lufkin folding rule (36" good, rest missing)
dirty unknown tiny folding rule, missing brass depth gage
2 new saw blades (trade in for free new blades at LOWES)
inside calipers
lock and key
assorted bits for brace
sm. USA C clamp
cheap toolbox tray
hood ornament?
several pounds of brass plumbing (should cover my gas)
some hose stuff
2 packages of solid brass hinges and some wall anchors
full size mattox/ pickax (not pictured)
rusty platform cart to carry it all to my truck!

(forgot the HUGE rusty wrench and the little weird double end pliers/nippers)
(forgot the Coke, StarRx made in USA bottle opener, genuine original or repro?)

the scrollsaw will join the project list, as will the companion arbor
the rest will get a quick clean, handles, etc

And yes, I know, without pix it didn't happen! I keep getting a 'security token missing' error when I try to attach photos. I'll get them in my photobucket acct, and edit or post again.

Huh, that didn't do what I thought it would. I thought it would display the pix.

Probably better as links, for slower connections.

Oh, I forgot, there was also an electric floor scrubber, 1970's style, 2 counter rotating 5" brushes. Been looking for one for a while. Perfect for scrubbing the kitchen floor tile. That was included in the $15.
