OK guy's I posted my new to me Snap On toolbox in show us your toolbox and in vintage (just makes it in). After scrubbing it to death and then some. A call to Snap On for new slides (they did replace under warranty) I started sanding it to paint it. The the base is going Rustoleum Red. So I'll open the can of worms, do I paint the drawers the same red or do I go with black. I have always like the red and black scheme, thats how I painted my boxes when I did work in the trades, or do I do the SO thing and go all red. I'm on the fence. Place your votes. Give me your opinions, AND why. Just for the record majority my not rule :p . When it is painted I'll post pictures.

Re: what color to piant my toolbox

Ever think of going another Snap on color? I love there orange. You can buy there paint in a spray can now. All colors to. It's your box and you have to look at it and use it so whatever color you want. But my vote is orange. I think it's neat to see the older snap on boxes painted the new colors. Ever think of powder coating to? Good luck and that's a awesome box.

AHHHHH I want that box..

Sorry, just the first thought in my head.

I would paint it black or green and make a corvette clone box like this.

Just step away from that box with any paint. Sell it and buy the color of your choice.

There are plenty who would want to buy that box off you.

Red and black would be great. Two-tone always seems to be better for tool boxes and things like that, a little contrast makes it interesting.

On the other hand...what about sanding down the whole thing and painting it with Porsche's "Speed Yellow"? One of my favorite colors, and would look amazing on a toolbox.

Re: what color to piant my toolbox

First off OP, that top box is one of my favorites. I love everything about it. I hope to have one, one of these days....

now for the color choice.... i have to say on the older or vintage SO boxes, i kinda like the Snap On red. But i will rapidly admit that i do like the Lime Green and the Orange that they have put out.

Still on an older box, i think i would go back to plain red.

If i won the lotto, i would buy the largest roll cab, 2 side lockers and a riser in Orange or Green so fast it would make your head spin. I would probably lean towards Orange, but on a stand alone roll cab the Green would be nice. If you had a wall of Lime Green it might be hard to look at it after a while. :p

and while i live in Texas, i am not necessarily a Longhorn fan.

Re: what color to piant my toolbox

bissonj - I have a Snap-on set that's similar to yours but a few years older and not quite as wide. I think the top is mid 60's and the bottom early 70's. I bought the top used in 1969 when I worked part time during high school in my Dad's gas station. I bought the bottom about this time last year. I have always liked this style of box.

I am pretty sure the bottom was originally all red. The previous owner did a good job of painting it gloss black but it has several small dings in it. The top box was originally a lighter red but it was repainted before I got it. The drawers are still their original mat black.

I plan to restore both boxes and I'm thinking of red cabinets and "gloss" black drawers. That's close to original for the top but not quite. Like a few others have said ... go with what you like. :)

If you plan on keeping it, paint it whatever your heart desires. I would have no problem myself changing the whole color scheme if that is what I wanted, other peoples opinions be danged lol.

It's your box so I'd say paint it any color you like.

Personally I think all tool boxes, especially Snap-On's should be red and I for one don't care for the Craftsman's two tone, red w/ black drawers look but if you do, go for it.

If I was going to change colors all together, I really dig SO's royal blue

Yeah, blue would be cool. My old Williams box was repainted engine orange by the previous owner, so I like the Snap-On orange boxes too.

I wonder how expensive it would be to powder-coat a whole tool roll cab and top box? Hmmm... considering it for my old Mac boxes. Might have to call around and get some pricing.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys I appreciate it. Outlaw you did make me think about painting to match my bike, medium blue metallic and silver grey metallic would look nice, but would show dirty finger prints really bad. I won't tell you what I did decide. I have started sanding and painting the bottow box and when done will do the top. I'll post pictures when done. Thanks again all you gave me a lot of ideas to work with. BTW this is the fav ride.
