Great finds, and definite suckage!

Plvomb wrenches, Proto drivers, and that Dunlap ign. set still in the roll, and looks as new? Dunlap may not have been "Sears best" but that roll just makes it! :rocker:
Oh it gets even better... :D
some of those screwdrivers are vintage Xcelite (pre-Apex and US made). There was a pair of Wizard pliers and an Armalite driver in that Toyota tool roll. And the bottle jack is an old Walker. Still can't believe I got that lucky! :rocker:

Hey guys, this is my first post on this thread. I have had an incredible last 2 weeks yard saling, and hope I can get some pics up soon. I bought out all of a guys tools that had passed away 2 years ago. He had gone to school with my Dad and his sister was selling it to clean out the shed. I paid $50 for around 300+ pounds of tools, lawn mower small parts, and hardware. Including a small craftsman roll aorund top and bottom box. The weekend before that I spent around $12 and got a drill press, table top wood lathe, and a tools box I filled with tools. I'm going to make sets and resell alot of "china" stuff this weekend at a yard sale.

Here are the pics i promised of the sale i missed on Friday but my old man stopped by for me. This has been the second sale this year i should of gone to but decided against it at the last minute. A large portion of the items there were extremely old, (1900) or later and this was what he grabbed for me.

The Plomb hammer was just a head so it got a new handle today. The 2 small offset wrenches are Plomb WF. The Craftsmans are all underline C. The P&C wrench is brand new

The funny shaped thing in the corner is a hand forged bench stop with the name R.S. Plummer stamped into it.

I haven't been able to put a date to the Snap on reducing adapter. It has the old Snap on logo with M-1-G stamped under it. Any ideas?

Here's the Cummins saw attachment in its original box. Looks, um, awkward at best.

cummins2.jpg

I actually used one in an awkward place I needed tight clearances to, and it wasn't all that bad! The cut was about 10 ft long too, and I used a guide. Just remember to get some oil into the bushing before using...

Things have been pretty sparse around here lately, but today I managed to pick up this Duro set. Made between 1929 and 31, appears to be only missing the el bar. It does have unusual sockets and an extra short speeder.
Also picked up a wooden handled Proto 24" screwdriver that is pretty nice.

I've got a list of places to go tomorrow and Sunday, we shall see what I find.
Here is something to get the weekend started...my mom's aunt passed away last year and her daughter is getting ready to sell the house. We stopped out there last night and they let me look through the tools and take what I wanted.

Crescent diagonal cutters, Vacuum Grip long nose (my first!), Stanley/Bell System phillips screwdriver and NID wrench (5/32 hex security screw), and a neat Buck knife!

Hit a Friday Garage sale and two Estate sales today. First estate sale wasn't worth the wait in line; Hardly any tools and what there were, I passed on. (I did buy some old US postage stamps from a collection, the had packs of them for .25c ea... $3 worth...)

The yard sale got me some newish Crescent spring loaded dykes, and some NIP tire mounting prybars, got those for my son.

The good estate sale required some effort. Things were scattered EVERYWHERE! I found a couple of Irwin screwdrivers in a cabinet, with an 18" pipe wrench, and a couple of rolls of plumbers tape on a table covered in junk, (not garage junk either), and at the other end of the table was a third screwdriver from the same set of Irwin drivers. so I was up to three...

Out on the back patio were two small tool boxes. One, the usual box type, maybe 15" or so, and the other was a cantilever Kennedy, both a hodge podge with both junk and some decent finds. A weird mix as well, there was a long reach 1/4-20 plug tap, and a new in tube reamer (.2460") at one end of the spectrum, and monkey wrenches from the turn of the century at the other end... I also found a fourth to the Irwin screwdriver set, so possibly I have a complete small set? :dunno:

I got a big enough pile that I finally dumped all of the "good stuff" into the Kennedy, and the real junk into the other box. I wound up putting some things I would have ordinarily passed on as I knew these particular Estate sale people always gave me good prices on tools, and it was usually "by the pound" and @ pennies... (They also keep trying to sell me my own walking stick, but now its become a joke...) I walked out $10 poorer. :rocker:

The plane is a Stanley (for) Handyman, (anyone remember the Handyman chain?) Emco 8" Lineman's pliers, Plvmb Pebble double box wrench, and that 1/2" chisel is my first Prvtv(Proto)/Plvmb lawsuit tool! (Proto mfg USA by Plvmb...). 6" Diamond and Danielson (with the 9/16 box hanging hole, so now I have 2 of these) A Duro chisel, (odd, most of the older chisels and punches I see are no-name, today they are all marked..) The punch had 1971 (part no?) and Chrome Alloy on it. Lastly the Irwin screwdriver set.
attachment.php

From top to bottom: Walworth/Walco 18" pipe wrench, jaws are perfect, 8" Keen Kutter Monkey, (Keen Kutter is usually hatchets in my experience...), 14"Trimo Pipe wrench with a wood handle! again the jaws are perfect. And last is the L. Coes 15" Monkey Wrench, which puts it as before 1928.
attachment.php

Next up a beat and no name 8" carpenters square, a 13 pc. drill index I got because I liked its styling, despite it being an early made in Japan (generally junk, and some of the bits bear that out...). The reamer, and tap, a GDT (Greenfield?) tap handle, 5 of 6 metric craftsman allens, an old stove lid handle, a 7 X 9 mm craftsman wrench, and 3 "auto kit" No. 100 wrenches that need a vinegar bath...
attachment.php

six of a set of hex drive sockets (also in need of a vinegar bath..), so I'd guess 20's to 30's, a Craftsman wood rasp that has seen more wear sitting in semi abusive storage than in actual use, an apparently unused battery post cleaner, and a Nicholson triangular file.
attachment.php

And the Kennedy Cantalever box. I think this is their smallest, 8-1/4" X 17-1/4" foot print... The overall condition is good (needs a good cleaning) with the exception of the rust on the latches. Incredible how something like this can be so bad, when the rest is so good.

I have several Stanley Handyman tools, of various ages. I just thought it was one of their tool lines, didn't know it was a store.
You got some great stuff today!!

I'm a bit late posting today but i made off with a pretty decent haul from the only sale i went too this morning.

There were some early 50s power tools but i really didn't have any use for them so i passed but the hand tools were pretty good.

It seemed like there were a good selection of oddball tools which i like so i was happy. I really like the B&C offset crescent and the Bernard plier/sidecutter combo tool

Someone on this thread commented that estate sales are the way to go because they are cleaning out a house vs. a garage sale where people are attached to everything they put prices on. I had never really thought of that, but it makes total sense - so today I only hit a couple of estate sales - what a difference from the typical garage sale with the $5 sticker on the rusty old carpenter's square!

First one (actually this is a catch up post from last weekend) - didn't have many tools - but did have a tool chest (they were keeping) full of ratchets and sockets - nothing rare or unusual, but got 17 sockets - CMan, one 7/8 deep Snap On and 7 Penncraft, three extensions (not shown), a CMan 1/2 ratchet, a Cman 1/4 ratchet - both US, and a 3/8 and 1/2 AC Delco Taiwan, plus a Husky tool bag. $30 was a little pricy and not at all "you ****" but I felt like I got a square deal.
DSC00665.jpg

Second estate sale - garage full of rusty, broken tiny little trinket tools, no-name wrenches and rusty garden tools. I managed to dig out some good items though for $7:
-Arkansas Oilstone
-Lufkin extension rule with brass slide
-Mayhew 3/4 chisel
-Trufit 3/8 7/16 wrench
-Fletcher glass cutter
-2 Stanley nail sets
-Millers Falls box knife (needs evaporust)
-Desmond Stephan No 0 grinder wheel dresser
DSC00666.jpg

Went inside and dug through some old books and stacks of magazines - spied a large stack of "Fine Woodworking" which I love for $0.50 each. Told them that was too rich for me. Finally agreed on $8 for the whole stack of 62 of them and hauled them to the car.

I didn't realize until I got home that . . .hey, these are in order and go backwards from No.48 to . . . .Number 1, Winter 1975. The stack also had Fine Homebuilding No. 1 Feb 1981 thru No. 6 Dec 1981.

Today was literally the worst garage sale day I've had LOL
Had to run some errands in the morning and stopped by 4 different sales on the way home. Either no tools, or they were gone. After I went home and had lunch, I stopped by 5 more! None of them had tools except the last one. I think it made up for the rest, though. 20 bucks for everything!

Well 14 planned stops today, (I even cut back on the list some!) but one was an over-sized "block sale" of about 10 streets in a particular neighborhood, with a claim of 50 houses participating (I believe it!) It's usually pretty good one way or another (it's an Annual event).

I made one stop on the way, and got some Whia drivers (My first), three older Stanly drivers, and these may go to the classifieds. I also got a small pair of dykes, which will probably go to my daughter and her jewelery making enterprise.
attachment.php

The first score at the block sale was a good one.

Craftsman, Proto (the 3/4 drive breaker and socket), Duro, and Plvmb; The Plvmb was the 1/4 ratchet and ignition pliers, which were in the duro socket case, and a Prvtv (Proto) Mfg by Plvmb wrench (I'm up to 3 of the crossover lawsuit tools now) The craftsman ratchet has the "Star trek" switch, and will probably go on the classifieds
attachment.php

The Plvmb ignition pliers are smaller and a bit different style than the usual 4" ignition pliers; here they are above some Black hawk and Boker's (all three pairs picked up in the past 3 weeks or so!)
attachment.php

24 oz Nupla Dead Blow hammer, Gemco Needle Nose pliers from Italy, 15" Billings & Spencer Auto wrench, Lakeside 12" crescent, 10R vise grips, and a 10" crescent.
attachment.php

Ridgid 14" pipe Wrench, Wiss #18 Snips, Huot Drill index - full;

attachment.php

Another stop at the block sale got me this jack, which also came with a 2' bar for working it 3 bucks!:
attachment.php

A second pass got me these, some odd cable cutters marked "HKP (R), Bearing scraper (Thx Metaldad!), Drill stand, an OTC socket, some #4 shot shells, a Challenger 3/8 combo, and a K&E 8' tape,:
attachment.php

More to come!
