You are living mine and I am sure a lot of other peoples Dreams.
Very Very nice.
What make is the Willys body?

Do you ever go to NSRA in Louisville, KY 1st week in August?

TC

Probably Willys

Probably Fiberglass.

The Willys body was made by Clayton Custom Cars in North Caroline. They were a long standing reputable company specializing in Willys. This original concept roadster body was made by Dennis Taylor who was also recognized as top in Willys. Unfortunately both businesses are out of business as the economy turned on them. Guys willing to spend $150,000 and up just weren't building these cars.

Yes, the original body is fiberglass. I am not a cookie cutter guy so we spent 18 months on the body alone. As I like european styling my first order of business was to make sure the body was smooth and clean. We widened the rear fenders 3 inches on each side, porsche cayenne tailpipes through the rear body, porsche headlights, front chin spoiler, waterfall console inside that runs from the dash up through to the rear deck area. We spent 4 months building the removable hardtop. 540 cu in BB with Kinsler fuel injection, 4l80 transmission with paddle shift, digital dash, a killer sound system with 15 inch subs behind seats, 32 inch flatscreen in the trunk, with an apple tv providing the sound. The aluminum dash and side hood vents were designed by me. The original prototype was made of wood. I then sat down with a guy at a machine shop and he sketched it out on his computer and then they machined them for me......it was a little more difficult than this but its the short version of the story.

I do tour with this car and have had an interest in some Kentucky shows but have not made it. I have been doing some in door shows the past few years.

Here is a better picture of the suburban before we took it apart. It is sitting on those roller dollies you put under tires to move the vehicle around. We had a fuel injected twin turbo motor in it for a year. When it goes back together we will probably just install a small block 350.

I like big wheels so both trucks have 22's on the front and 24's on the rear with 30 series tires.

I'm very impressed that the garage is a actual working garage and that you are a hands on guy.

Truly impressive Garage/House/Willy's and projects.

Maybe some additional pics of cabinets/tools boxes?

Thanks again.

Willys is great. Do you have build pictures of the Willys? I love to see guys do their own work. Also love to see in process pictures. Love the old Chevy trucks with big tires.

I did notice that the garage is built using what I call basement blocks. Is that typical of construction in warmer weather? Is it more cost effective vs stick built? I really like the idea of block built.

Here in ice cold Wisconsin we need all the insulation we can get……………winters are brutal.

Mark, your thread has become like a good book - hard to put down and just waiting to see what comes next. Even my wife stays tuned as we are in the design stage of our new home and garage build.

Thanks for sharing an important slice of your life with us!

Ok I do have some better pictures of the cabinets. I want to express again the pictures I have shared are glamour shots......we cleaned everything up and placed the cars for the photos. I keep it pretty organized and I will probably add some current pictures of the state of the garage without the picture perfect setting.

The most popular material for building is concrete blocks here in Florida. My first house was wood frame and I would never have one again because of termites and water damage. For a garage I prefer block walls because it is durable. I can't hurt it if you banging around in the garage. Every 4th block cell is poured solid with a 24 inch tie beam(top/cap) on top of the block walls.
Every open block cell is filled with insulation which was injected after the walls were up. With the a/c I wanted plenty of insulation. The house is built similar, however, there is 1/2 rigid foam board, furring strips with an air space, and then drywall on top of that. It gets hot here.

I love your name "Lawnman. I haves always loved mowing grass. At 16 years old I mowed 4 schools in our community single handedly. It took a janitor at each school to replace me when i left:lol: Our yard in Indian had a 9 acre front yard and I had a killer John Deer all wheel drive tractor, turf tires, and a 14 foot batwing deck to mow. We have for 30 years done all of our mowing in house at our rental communities.

Goodluck on the house and hope you share pictures of the build.

Here is a picture of the Suburban before we took it apart. We are looking at painting the bottom silver and the top a satin black.

This place and the cars are awesome. You should be very proud of what you've accomplished! I'm glad to see that you're actually using it for it's intended purpose instead of just garage queen storage. Keep up the great work.

The Willys is pretty damn nice, but I love the garage best.

Thanks, I see you have one of those Chevy 454SS pickups. Those trucks are bad and I guess you have done some tuning as well. Cool truck!!

There are a few rooms I have not showed yet and the "show car" garage is one of them. When I first designed the garage the single car garage between the apartment and the main garage was for the Willys. I put the picture window in the apartment so you could see in this "special" garage and there was also a full glass door between this room and the garage so you could see in from the main garage as well. I put special lighting in this room to showcase the car for my own enjoyment. When we moved into the garage apartment this single car garage became our closet and my temporary media room. I temporarily removed the garage door tracks so it would look more finished. I put a black curtain in front of the garage door and hung up a 120" movie screen. On the back wall of the garage I had floor to ceiling closet rods. When we moved out of the apartment I stripped the room of the closet rods and the movie screen. I did the unthinkable and decided to turn it in to my music room. I have played drums for 40 years and with my love of music decided this would be the perfect place for me to practice. I installed sound absorbing panels, set up a sound system, and had myself a music room. I guess my show car garage will have to wait.

Here is a picture taken toward the garage door. The curtain is still up to hide the garage door. This is a good picture showing the picture window into the apartment.

I posted a picture of my 66 Suburban and as I said earlier we are doing a complete paint job on it. Once item I have not yet acquired yet is a paint booth. Quit frankly I don't know if I am going to get one or not. For what we do I can find a nice booth in the area we can shoot in without going to the expense of buying one. We decided to paint the interior of the truck at the garage. Out back on the concrete slab we built our own paint booth for priming and interior paint. check out my Walmart $340 paint booth:lol: please note fan on far end.....its a nice 8 post tent with sides and it works great..... We got the seat frames, interior doors, and trim painted today. tomorrow we get the interior painted.........decided on Mercedes Benz Irudiam Silver. Interior will have a satin clear..........Exterior will get painted in a proper booth.

Here is a picture of a recent purchase.....a nice 1966 Corvette. Although it is a 427 BB car we have a 502 in it.

I like the side pipes....

When I original bought the car and the pipes were on it. At first I was definitely taking them off but after driving it a few times I decided they would stay. they sound awesome and they are big pipes and they let the 502 breath. I will be pulling them off to have them jet hot coated black to make them look new again.

I definitely would not be living this life if I had kids. I do have a pretty hot looking wife and I like to try to......:thumb up: She definitely married down!! My secret is I can't sit still and I am not smart enough to budget my time. :eyecrazy:

I have a great story on the early vettes and the reason I bought the 1966 Vette you see in the picture.. When i was 18 I found this crazy cool custom vette.......say 1979. In college I talked my dad into buying this 1966 Vette. The builder was selling the car as he was starting a pool business. The car was so nice we showed it around the mid west at the indoor World of Wheels shows. It was a trailer queen. In the mid 80's it was sold and lost track of it. Three months ago I got an itch to find it. You know everyman's dream is to find the car he had as a young man and probably screw his first girlfriend:lol: Not many guys get to find their car................I did. Luckily I had the VIN number and through some law enforcement connections I found it in Wisconsin. I literally called information and got the guys phone number. I had it bought but changed my mind..........it still had some of the originally custom modifications. It had the same interior and the same car show dash plaque on the glove compartment as when I had it. It was like digging up an old dinosaur. It was too custom for me so I contacted the original builder of the car, the guy I bought it from and it is now in his garage!!! Yes, he still operates the pool business he started when he sold the vette to my family. Happy ending.........I had the bug so I went out and bought one.

Words can not describe how jealous I am!

The only thing I can say is that it's perfect. Well done and thanks for sharing!

Thank you........I found another picture to share. We just got finished painting the interior of the 66 suburban. The old suburbans had a full metal interior and the panels are quite attractive. Today after the interior color was shoot I admired even more the art deco look of the old Burb........check it out.......
We still need to install all of the metal trim that surrounds the windows.

Random question IGO2XS, are you on the 67-72 chevytrucks forum? I could have sworn I've seen your suburban on there. I have a 67 C10 so Im always floating around there for information.

Away from that, incredible garage and vehicles :) looking forward to seeing those couple projects complete.

Yes I am on the chevy truck forum. I have two builds going on right now. I have learned a lot from the truck forum as well as here on the garage forum. I did get a little bit of a lecture today from the wife. The last few months I have had to purchase quite a few parts and the credit card showed up.:( I can't say she was too happy when I came home today with two new toolboxes. :D I walked in Harbor Freight to buy a $20 item and left with two of these rolling tool cabinets. They were $199.00 each and have 5 drawers plus the top opens up with a large bin under the lid. I have a big tool box but i am also walking over to it to get a wrench or socket or something. I am going to set these two new boxes up with tools I use on a more regular basis so I can roll it to wherever I am working.

Check out the sword on top of the cabinet. In the late 60's my parents traveled to Spain, German, and France on there first overseas trip. When they returned they brought back two large battle axes, swords, shields, and some other cool medieval stuff. A few years back when we started building our home I grabbed up all of the medieval weapons and I have used them in our home. I have two doors where I have used battle axes as the door pull. I made a bracket for this sword out of metal so I can attach it to a door as a door pull in my media room. Its fun having the garage so we can fabricate all this stuff.

Wow, Mark, I get ******* at work, church and home and I miss the big reveal. Or reveals. The garage is beautiful in every aspect. The house is also Amazing. (Glad didn't wait for me to wake up before you posted it.) And that Willy's is beyond belief. The flow of the interior curves just blend together so well. And that Vette... Wow!

It is great to see the cars in the shop, but pix of the shop in use would really look great of actual work in progress. That and the cabinet shots...

Nice work on the Suburban too.

OK, I will take some pictures tomorrow of the shop and post them. I know you have been busy on the forum but don't wait so long to look:lol:

Here is picture of one of the other doors with the battle axe. This was taken during construction so you will see some tape on the baseboards. We made this door out of pecky cypress right in the garage.
