Hey guys looking at Gearwrench non ratcheting wrenches for home use. Does anyone have experience with these wrenches? Has anyone used them for pro use? Durability? Thanks guys.

like almost every piece of gearwrench i have, they are durable, well made, and inexpensive. i've got at least a couple of non-ratcheting sets including a long pattern (i think GW calls them 'XL') that are nicely made along with flex head and straight flare nut sets. i don't make a living with wrenches, but do quite a bit between a race car, bartering mechanical work for things i need, and maintaining all my stuff. just did a clutch job in trade for splitting 8-10 cords of firewood and made good use of my GW tools.

i will say i got a set of the wright full polish standard length combos and REALLY like them. they aren't cheap, but appear to be extremely well made and finished, and i much prefer the rounded profile of the beams over all my other wrenches. i do wish they had a long pattern set, but still find myself using them over my other non-ratcheters. i just had a wright ratchet break, and their customer service was excellent - had a replacement kit in hand in less than a week.

I have a couple of sets. They are probably comparable to my Craftsman in quality. Not tool truck quality but better than most. I like them just fine for home use.

They are good wrenches, some just bad mouth them because they are not made in the USA. But no one has really prove they are not as dependable as other more expensive brands. You just missed out the gw sale at sears, 2 15 piece set of 15 SAE and 15 Metric for 50 dollars each set. But Sears has a good deal at the stores for a 20 piece set right now of GW standard wrenches. Think they are 90 or 99 dollars.

I just won a 15 piece long pattern wrench set by Gearwrench for 70 bucks. Hope it's considered a good deal.

They most likely brought them when sears was selling them for 50 bucks 2 weeks ago. And just flipped them. But yeah is better then paying 150 for them.

I bought a SAE & Metric set when Advance Auto was clearing them out a few years ago @ $19.99 and love them.

I have an older set of the Taiwan made metrics. They're great wrenches for the money. Although not exactly the same, they're probably as close of a clone as you can get to the Matco opitorque wrenches. The Gearwrenches have decent chrome, off corner engagement on the boxed end, and have a modified open end to reduce slippage. I don't know how the current PRC made wrenches are but, the Taiwan made ones offer a lot at a third or less the price of truck brand wrench sets.

I was comparing them side by side to the Craftsman RP wrenches a while ago when I wanted some more wrenches to carry with me in my Truck. They seem nicely made, but in the end I went with the craftsman because

1) Ive got a lot of em, and Ive never had any problems with any craftsman RP wrenches
2) The price was better on the craftsman
3) USA made.

Not saying the GW's arent great wrenches, but I went with the craftsman.

just to confirm, the PRC-made wrenches have both the off-corner engagement on the box end and the 'teeth' on the open end.
