got it from the side of the road. was riding my bicycle to work and spotted it. rode back and picked it up. can this ratchet be upgraded to a ~30 tooth with a new kit? the current gear is 20 tooth. i cleaned it up and it works fine. it is missing a screw and has some chrome loss. date code is 1970 i believe

ratchet is pretty neat. has two separate E stampings showing it has been rebuilt at least twice. ill talk to my snappy guy and see if i can get a screw for it. did some more research, cant get a finer tooth kit for it. only on the f720 you can upgrade to 30t.

Free is great!!!

Dont be one of those pricks on here that thinks because you found it you are entitled to a free warranty replacement. They are the ones making it hard for those of us that spend the cash buying Snap-On tools to get anything replaced.

Huh? Didn't someone buy it initially? Could you point to the statement in Snap-On's lifetime warranty that says it is non-transferable? You shouldn't get all salty if someone finds something for free, uses it until it breaks and then gets it replaced.

Nice find!! Not sure why anyone would recommend getting a replacement via warranty. If there is something legitimately wrong maybe but just to get a shiny new tool?? I much prefer older worn undamaged equipment and tools. Imagine the stories they could tell. When I reach for tools in the tray it's always the ones that feel comfortable.

I'm not seeing any chrome peel or loss (show more pics); the lever, gear cover seem to indicate a relatively newer rebuild kit was put in it. I'm sure your dealer will put a kit in it; if it needs one. Even the older ratchets; sell for a decent amount of money on ebay, if you want to upgrade to a dual 80 (assuming, it is not eligible for a upgrade through warranty). There are dual 80s for sale; here in the classifieds section all the time. The older ratchets like this one; are very durable and work well, albeit with lower tooth counts then currently shipping unit. All my Snapon ratchets; regardless of the vintage are usable but I do tend to reach for my dual 80's before the earlier lower tooth count siblings... :)

:lol_hitti No better than the pricks who buy old junk Craftsman and trade it in for new in my book.

Just order the rebuild kit RKRA38ALS and service tool SPP-744.

It will cost you about $11.00 total.
