Lincoln are largely made in Mexico and Italy now.
And those American made Millers are made in the USA, of mostly foreign parts.
There's the global economy for ya.

I spent 3-months researching inverter Tig machines and have yet to find a single bad comment on HTP machines anywhere and trust me I've looked far and wide. Biggest bang for the buck out there IMHO. USAWeld has customer service surpassed by none!

I'd agree with this. I researched for quite some time and the HTP was the unit I wanted. Just couldn't afford it. Ultimately went with a chinese box (Everlast 250EX). Haven't fired it up yet as I'm still gathering the consumables and about to embark on a renovation and garage build! From all I heard, I suspect you'll be happy with that unit.

In all fairness, I have a little Lincoln SP135T that has served me well many years too. The HTP 221 Invertig has a boat load of features for the money. Every person who has one raves about it.

The specs on the machine are pretty impressive and for the money, nothing out there seems to come close. That being said, it appears there are three types that have opinions on it. 1. Those that own it and have had problems, 2. Those that own it and love it, and 3. Those that don't own it but hate it anyway. I don't bother listening to the the type 3's as I value real world experience and not rumour mill. Between types 1 and 2, I have found there to be a pretty high number of those that like the machine of late. Early on, it seemed there were some issues but it seems they've gotten some of the bugs worked out. If I ever get done with all the construction and such I'm about to embark on, I guess I'll find my answer on whether or not I like it!

If you buy, don't pay their list price. Call them and haggle hard. Get ready for them to throw in a welding cart or helmet etc.... to make the deal. I got mine for $1350 with a welding cart thrown in.

Yeah, I keep hearing that ******** story too. Funny how many people are willing to believe any old thing they hear on the internet.

I'll see if I can use "google" to dig up your data. But the easiest way to see is open one up. The electronics are all offshore. The drive motors on some units are as well (for the mig machines). The fans come from Germany I believe. I've heard, no proof, the cases are offshore as well. I'm pretty certain for TIG units and the amount of electronics involved (particularly the inverter machines of late), it's pretty fair to say the majority of the parts are offshored. The units are assembled and tested in the USA still but there are few components left that are actually manufactured in the US. Not that it really matters. As long as the components are meeting specs as defined by the manufacturer, and the designs are sound, it should still be a good unit. You can't buy anything these days that is electronic that doesn't have significant numbers of parts from offshore. About the only component left in computers that is still built in the US is the microprocessor (and even then that's not always the case)...welders are not that different.

Ok just thinking of getting into TIG, I have looked at Miller offshore parts or not stiill seems to be a good unit. That said it is way spendy, this HTP looks like a good way to get started. So DV = dual voltage 110 or 220, you opted for this why? So you could be more portable I'm guessing as 220 is not always available. Just trying to figure it for my use. As I said new to TIG, don't you need 220 to weld Aluminum?
Anyway thanks for the info, looks the HTP has some good reviews, keep us updated on your use good or bad with the unit.

I have had my 221 for awhile now and im still loving it. Also just because I see the china welders got braught up in this thread I'd like to point out that the htp is Italian made. The torch is USA made (CK) the water cooler that comes if you order that upgrade (I did) is USA made as well and so is the pedal. What I'm getting at is this welder should not be compared to the chicom stuff and if I had a dynasty handy I'd be happy to do a side by side comparison with it.

If you want some good reading you should check-out the weldingweb website.. VERY, VERY good info on there about any welder you can imagine. They also have an Everlast sponsored forum (run by "olick" or whatever his name is, some Russian guy I think)...
The issue with HTP is that they are based in Italy or something, if you go red or blue you can count on support being much easier to get and them sticking around for a good long while...
I hear 90% bad reviews about the Everlast machines... I wouldn't go with that brand if I had a choice...
But to be fair I haven’t heard anything bad about HTP just the off-handed comments about “if it breaks and you need parts you are screwed”.

just buy a used tig off craigslist or something, who cares what brand just get one that will suet your needs as far as amps.

Atleast around me, I've heard really bad things about the TIG unit on CL. Half don't work, and the ones that do have electronic glitches, meaning they function on one mode, but once you try to do something different they **** out. Requiring a replacement board, most seem to be blue in color. Don't know if its that the brand is just popular or if its lack of quality.
