Hi, I was wondering i anyone had a good option for mounting a longboard surfboard neatly to the wall in the garage. I'm looking for something that can hold a 9' board. Thanks

I would build something out of 3/4 plyboard. Half a sheet would work. I say plywood so that it is less likely to split with the grain when force is applied to the 'hook'

Pardon my quick sketchup.

Make two, run deck screws through the back of the brackets into the 'hook', you can use liberal amounts of liquid nails or your favorite adhesive. Then just screw the brackets to the wall.

Save a bunch by getting the wood from a Habitat Restore or use scraps you have. You could get fancy and glue a strip of an old towel to the inside of the hook if you want to protect the board. I would definitely consider adding bungee's because things happen in the garage.

Mav,

How come the nice lady isn't looking at your plywood hook. She is gazing in the other direction?

Made these for my bro-in-law years ago. 1x1 16 gauge tube covered with foam.

I drilled a large hole through the front side of the top cap and the bottom ell so the head of a drywall would pass through and then drilled small hole through the backside and used 2 1/2 inch course drywall screws into the studs.

How did you secure the pvc "j-hooks" to the wall?

MJB has the right idea, i made something similar to that for my wake boards. i'd suggest adding some kind of strap to go over it to make sure the board doesn't slip out, i know how expensive a 9ft board can be and you don't want that fallin on concrete!

You can do what mjb did but use some unistrut - http://www.unistrut.us/

Super strong and super easy. Get the galvanized stuff and then you dont need to worry about rust. You can even get rubber bumpers to protect the boards.
