I busted the tip off of my 12in long Craftsman screwdriver (41585) yesterday at work, trying to get the rusted screws out of a floorplate on a dozer. Took it to my local sears this morning, and couldnt find a match for it. The longest one they had was 9in, so the cashier called the tool manager over, he said they dont sell that particular screwdriver any more, and gave me a $30 gift card. I used the card to buy 2 new Craftsman Pro screwdrivers. Now thats customer service..... With all the Craftsman bashing on here lately, i thought i would show them some love, and tell everyone their warranty still kicks a$$...

Not all Sears are same. It depends on location and manager.

Good thing they took care of you.

Sears stores are independent now. :( So experiences seem to vary. I heard the local (medium size) store tell some guy he would have to take (or ship) his ratchet to a big store that is two hours from here for replacement.

However, a small store in a town where I work is totally different. I took a cracked socket in. They looked on the shelves and in the back for a replacement. No go. They said they would have to order it and it would be in my mail box in a couple of days. It was!

i had a cracked socket that i used a hammer on and sears nor kmart wouldnt replace it because it was abused. i have a multi bit snap ring pliers and the tips are wear parts so they didnt replace them eather. i got a compresor with air tools for christmas and the air rachet stoped working after 6 months and they didnt have the right one so they gave me a way better one. brought in a few regular allen wrenches a couple weeks ago and they replaced a couple with ball tips and the rest had to be sent to me but they havent made it in yet. waiting on a screwdriver also. seems like after those 2 issues i havent had a problem.

Sears "Hometown" stores are indepedently owned

Medium size(B store) are company owned
Large size (A store) are company owned

Sears will replace or repair broken craftsman hand tools at any location. If the tool is out of stock, they will either order you a new one shipped to your home or exchange it for a the next closest item.

If someone refuses to warranty the broken tool they are not following company policey. The warranty terms can be found on most tool packaging or reviewed on line at one of the terminals through out a sears store

FULL, UNLIMITED WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN HAND TOOLS.
If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to provide complete satisfaction, RETURN IT TO THE NEAREST SEARS STORE OR CRAFTSMAN OUTLET and it will be REPLACED free of charge. This warranty gives you specific leagal rights and you MAY also have other rights which vary from state to state.

I carry this copy of the Craftsman Warranty in my wallet. I've only had to show it once at SEARS for warranty of a ratchet. Next time when they ask you what is wrong with the Craftsman tool tell them..."I'm not Satisfied" This is what I said when I pulled the Craftsman Warranty from my wallet. My ratchet was then replaced with no problem.

12 years ago I was trying to free up some larger stainless slotted screws frozen in aluminum. I got a special socket bit from Snap on with a large screwdriver tip. Good grip, tremendous leverage over a normal screw driver. Recommended.

I also split the socket body wide open, twice. Just on a normal rachet socket driver. Easily replaced on warranty.... but that experience left me skeptical on how much better a Snap on socket is strength wise.

Ive never had any problems warrantying anything. And ive gone in before with a bag full of busted tools and walked out with 75 bucks worth of new stuff. (3 pair of pliers, buttload of sockets, 3 or 4 screwdrivers, ratchet)

To add another positive story: I warrantied a Craftsman garden hose at my local Sears a couple weeks ago without any problems. I set it on the counter, said I needed a warranty replacement, and the only question I was asked was how long it was so he could get the correct one off the shelf for me. It's too bad there's so much variability between stores/employees. This one was great, though.

Ha Ha sorry this was just too funny. You cracked me up with this post. I will definitely be using this line if any store associates start giving me static on a warranty exchange.

BTW I have yet to be denied any warranty exchange myself so no worries there.

This only happened to me one time. But I keep a copy of the warranty just in case.

I think its all up to the clerk/managers. Some are cool, some are *** holes. For best results, go on a week day morning, get what your want off the shelf and put it on the counter. Try to get a kid that doesn't really care about the stuff to ring it up. If you get a jerk, go back when he, her isn't working or go to another store.

At the current rate of the USA Craftsman hard line tools converting over to Taiwan/China, we will be there in a year or two with you.

Just about every time I go into a Sears here, I find another tool converted over to overseas COO. Beam torque wrenches is my latest discovery.

If it makes you feel better, I seen some cheesy multi-bit self loading screwdriver tool that had "Made in Canada" on the side.

Not all the stores are independent. The ones I go to are all owned by sears. And I have never had any complaints with their Customer Service.

Also I do not think all cmans will be made overseas. The sockets are still less expensive then their competition that sells asian sockets. A 6pt 3/8 standard socket is 4.20 at lowes and hd, it is 3.40 at sears. And HF no longer sells single sockets.

sale price is not what causes them to go over seas. its the manufacturing price. you better bet money that Lowes and HD are making much more profit per socket than sears is making on those USA sockets. with how things have been going with sears, i bet the foreign sockets are already on the boat, just havent arrived yet.

get thee an impact screwdriver..something along these lines http://www.harborfreight.com/impact...-782A-E011-B31E-001B2163195C&mr:referralID=NA

yes, there are more expensive and probably better ones out there, but that little ******* has saved me more aggravation than i probably want to know. OEM screws 'holding' rotors on? recipe for disaster in the salt belt. one good hit with that thing, screws back out like brand new. rusted over bracket screws under a car? WHAM - no problem. now that i think of it, not a bad stress reliever either :)

those damn rotor phillips are the reason i found out what an impact driver was. i know have two, a full sized one that most people use which use hardened 8mm-5/16 hex drive bits

and i have a 1/4 hex bit size which is much smaller unit. super useful on all kinds of stuff. i use it a lot for tightening things that have phillips when they probably really shouldnt. what wonderful tools when you need them

edit - HF has the little guy too. here http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/screwdrivers/7-piece-reversible-impact-driver-set-93481.html

I've never had a problem exchanging a craftsman tool at my local sears. It's one of the smaller stand-alone stores. They've always had the same tool in stock, except an old ratchet I had they didn't have the exact same style, but as long as it is the same drive size I'm not picky. ;)
