But I guess in class we can get a discount through snap-on. Awesome. I wonder if it is just like a student special? I know snap on tools are pricey and I would like a couple things from snap on, so I may have to take this chance while Im in my auto classes from the next 2 or 3 years.

It is a student discount. I think I read about 40% from someone else that just recently bought some stuff.

When I was in school a few years back, the snap on discount averaged around 50% It varies depending on the item.

Never forget 50% of F**king expensive is sill expensive, so just be a little
mindfull of the tools you buy to start with and try not to get carried away.
Just start with the stuff you will use loads and SLOWLY build up from there
or you could find yourself in a massive amount of debt before you know it.

Alternatively check that Bear to see if he's hiding a big fat wallet anywhere...

Keep going to the flea markets; it requires you to have cash but 90% of my snap-on stuff is used (including pretty much all my ratchets), pro tools at cheap prices... a great combo! Some items would be nice to have used: (e.g. torque wrenches etc.) Good luck with your searching for the ultimate tool set! :) X2 Snap-On ratchets all the way! :)

Buy a Snappy toolbox. 1/2 price for brand new is hard to beat. You usually have to pay straight up if you are on the student discount, though, so keep that in mind.

Snap-On Industrial's student program will finance toolboxes with the discount. A friend of mine I went to school bought a box from them and about $6000 in other **** from them, all financed. Probably not the best move but this guy had a sure bet job when he graduated. The only thing i bought from them was some Screwdrivers and one body hammer. It took almost two months for the body hammer to show up and about a month for the screwdrivers. Never ordered anything from them again after that.

That was the first thing that came to my mind and wrenchs.

Already making a list of stuff I may want that isn't going to be **** from snap on.

I don't plan on financing on anything right now. Striaght cash. Don't plan on taking loans out either unless I will have to!

Cash is king.

I've seen other GJ members post about buying 'almost-new' name-brand tools from students who have dropped out of an automotive program. Watch the bulletins boards at your school and you might scoop up an even better deal!

If you know what youl'll be working on when you graduate get an OEM set. If not get the American and Import set $6000= 30000x50% plus you will get a nice refund check at the end of the year. My acountant gets me a $1200-$1500 refund and I buy at least $3500 in tools every year. Also get a good tax accountant he/she is worth the money and keep every reciept. This is what I would have done if I had known at the time. That is unless you are married with children. I was single when I first started out and I was told to get some deductions. :lol_hitti

It was great when I was in school to have the %50 discount but none of the students including my self ever had a nickel to spare. :lol_hitti
Snap on guy only came around a few times after he figured out no one had any money.

Please don't be tempted to become a reseller.

My paltry Snap-On order (and the rest of the student discounts that year) was cancelled because someone was reselling tools in enough volume to annoy the retail truck dealers.

The idea of the discount is to get students acclimated to the tools at a discount, hoping they will continue buying off the retail trucks after graduation.

Nope, don't plan on doing that. What I buy I will keep as those snap on are pretty pricey!
