Went to Menard's and found that they had a 20% off masterforce. Whereupon I bought some USA made screwdrivers. Not that I need them........... but,,,,,,,,,,,,, I NEED them.
stubby phillips and slotted, speeder phillips and slotted, brake spring tool, terminal tool, and a mini torx driver kit.

Also bought this Craftsman Cross Force USA wrench set friday. Should be a collectors item, as Sears no longer stocks. Steeply discounted from 129.99. sizes 13/16, 7/8, 15/16, 1, 1 1/8. (why is there no 1 1/16?).

I always liked the concept of those but it seems clearance would be an issue.

The new Taiwan kobalt stuff looks pretty damn good eh?
I have the same set and it's really good, the ratchet is just a bit loud so it needs regreasing. It's a damn fine ratchet afterwards though.

Yeah the stuff seems to be good quality. The chrome is bright and mirror-like, the insides of the sockets are smooth and well formed. The ratchet is actually nice too, 72 teeth and really smooth; mine seems quiet but I will probably still open it and put some Superlube in there.

I have two observations (you might call them complaints):
- The head of the ratchet is a little thick.
- Socket sizes only laser marked.

On a side note I wouldn't pay full price for the Kobalt stuff.

I gotten these on Thursday when I sent my 1/2'' IR Air Impact gun in for rebuilding. Ditch the 3/4 Snap On Air Impact and with that extra $800 dollars, I've spend $550 on my Snap On 1/2'' 12 Point Chrome Shallow socket set.

Sizes are 10mm all the way through 32mm. Doesn't skip any numbers in between.

Still building my 1/2'' size sockets from Snap on.

all snap on ? good lord i hope you have a good paying job, or a winning lotto ticket in your pocket

My tool collecting started early this year. My goal is to have all those sockets listed by the end of 2012. Half way there. Just bought a $10,000 Snap On KRL box with Stainless Top less than 2 months ago. It's going to be paid off this Thursday!

If anyone Snap On franchise owner on here can cut me deals on the above Sockets, I'll be very interested! Tools must be new though. I don't like buying used.

That still doesnt really answer my inquiry.

I paid cash for a KRL box 2 days ago, doesnt mean i can afford to buy every single socket set snap on offers. I buy truck brand tools in my most used sockets and sets, but i dont use 1/4" much in my profession, so i wont spend 200 bucks on semi deep sockets when i can use that money on something else i actually use.

so what are you really trying to accomplish by doing achieving this goal

I'm young, I love cars and I will be working on them for the rest of my life. Believe me, I love cars. Plus I'm a Master Technician, gotta have the tools.

Used to walk over across the shop to borrow the other guy's tools, in the beginning it was fine but after a year, you just gotta get your own set. When you have more tools than the boss, it's serious business. If the boss man is paying you plenty, why not? If a tool isn't there in my boss's cart, he comes and uses mines. I don't mind, as long as you put it back.

I see it as a partnership, a lifetime investment.

They are super nice! Like I said, it's my first 1/2'' 12 Point Socket. I would of thought they came in some molding case but it was bagged up and put in a 10x10x10 box.

So what is that you say you do? I wrench for a living and i have literally come across zero instances where i need a semi deep socket. And 1/4 impact socket? Are you serious? Does your 1/4 impact put out THAT much ft. lbs?

i think his point is that by buying 3 different sets in every available drive size you're going to be spending a lot of money on sockets that will largely be sitting idle when that money could be better spent on other things.

If you're really buying all that why dont you go through the same dealer you got your box from. Im sure he'd be willing to cut you a deal on a few hundred sockets.

you can destroy 1/4" drive chrome sockets pretty quickly if you use them often enough. Not everyone relegates them to interior work. I use mine, all the way up to 14mm, quite often and they dont look overly healthy spending time on even an 1/4" air ratchet.

Rusted **** doesnt help much either since fasteners wear to the point where they create pressure points on the socket walls rather than engaging evenly across the hex.

2JZGTESC300: nice collection of tools you have, and an awesome set you will have if you achieve your goal!

Don't let the naysayers bother you. If you've paid off a $10K box in 2 months, you're doing fine. So you spent $2K on Snap On tools this year. So what? As long as you're earning your money honestly, not borrowing every cent living paycheck to paycheck never paying anything off, what's the problem with spending a lot on what makes you happy? See my sig.

At least you're putting your money into items that will last you a lifetime. Nothing wrong with that. How many young guys pi$$ away (literally...) that much in booze a year, or on vacations, or hotrodding their (depreciating) vehicle? Yes, your tools will depreciate, but with a lifetime warranty, and your plan to keep them forever, who cares? It's only a loss if you try to sell.

I've got full sets of 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2" drive chrome sockets in metric and SAE shallow and deep. Do I need them? No. I'm a home hobbyist. Do I like having them? Absolutely! Could I afford them? Yes. Did I kill or steal to get the money? No. It's a lifetime purchase for myself also.

If your financial circumstances decline, buy cheaper tools. Otherwise, enjoy!

I won't lose no sleep over it. If you want to collect tools, you collect tools.

Add a Snap On Verdict D7 Wireless Diagnostic System with that purchase as well. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. Does way too many things, probably take me a few months to fully understand it.

why don't you enroll in an evening automotive class at a community college for say $2-300, and then sign up for the votech student discount programs with the tool manufacturers

you guys are hilarious. im not a "nay sayer" were all on this forum for the same damn purpose. I make money with tools, work with them everyday, own alot of every brand name and truck brands, all i was saying was, IN MY OPINION....i would rather spend alot of money on sockets i use ALOT, than say 200 bucks on a 1/4" semi deep socket set that will sit in my drawer and get used maybe 4-5 times a month.

Your young and paid off a $10,000 dollar toolbox ? What do you want from me a cookie, congratulations on being responsible, just like i am but im not into having ******* contests.

I just see no reason to get all bent out of shape about it, i had a legitimaite inquiry about what your purpose was for that goal 2JZGTESC300 - you responded with "My tool collecting started early this year. My goal is to have all those sockets listed by the end of 2012. Half way there. Just bought a $10,000 Snap On KRL box with Stainless Top less than 2 months ago. It's going to be paid off this Thursday!"

that doesnt really even lead me to think you have a purpose for this goal, so i just questioned further out of pure curiousity. I was expecting to get a job title or what you work on, or what your most used drive size was in your profession, not a response like "if the bossman dont have a tool in his cart, he can use mine"
thats great if you wanna do that, but i supply tools for me at work, not the shop.

Long day at work, came home to a bunch of goodies!
IMG_1104.jpg

Hammers and Channellock 424 from Harry Epstein
Klein/Bell System Pliers from ihredo
Snap-on picks from eBay. The 90 degree pick was broken, so I swapped in another one I had. Took the busted shank out and used the handle for this:

Nope... I bought most all of it on sale or clearance.. once I take the other SAE nut driver set back and metric wrenches (friend don't want them. Says he doesn't take gifts... well F U too buddy! ), it'll total 130$.

The stuff on the left is:
Felo bit holder/driver (bit storage in the handle and it has a great grip)
Felo 3 piece torx driver set
Grobet file.. swiss made.. thing cost me half an arm but hey, that's what you pay for real quality.
US made stanley powerlock pro 12' tape measure
General taper reamer with handle
General Countersink with handle
Vermont American bit holder/driver (it's really small)

The cman is:
SAE bit socket set
18 pc pro wrennch set
hand impact thing (lol)
and one of those "build a set" deals... 30 bucks!

One more thing: Everything listed is either made in USA, Switzerland, or Germany. Talk about a good day!

Gearwrench 3/8" extension set, and an Extech electrical tester kit. Old school HKS Racing BOV lurking in the background. :)

Picked up this set. Forgot the part number. Got a great deal on it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1339546252.969444.jpg

236EFSET. Never saw the point, besides its insane list price ($750) one entire row is taken up by standard hex sizes. Should be tripple square or tamper proof torx taking up those spots if they really wanted to make it appealing to todays mechanic.
