My Scrap Guy **** Find Thread

I have a good friend now that has been a scrapper for 20 yrs or so, he's a cool cat. This guy has a few businesses he hauls for, plus he dumpster dives, trades for scrap and cleans up metal junk for anyone wanting their yards/shops cleaned out. Dude runs into good stuff all the time, he stashes some but most of it he considers scrap and takes to the salvage yard. I have been trying to catch him before he destroys things and will post my finds. Just today, I helped him load some junk at a guys house and this was some of the goodies I got. He asked for $25, I gave him $50, shook his and and thanked him.

I got some NOS performance engine parts, **** ton of large bearings, races and seals. a set of big dome top pistons in a vintage pepsi carton. couple napa tools, a German wrench, Williams Superrench, some cool hammers, hatchet head, files, small pry bars, drill bits, axle sockets, annnnnd... SNAP ON! got six sockets, two extensions and two socket rails. the large socket and long extension are underlined. I almost overlooked the snap on socket rails, then I wiped the dirt and smiled!

What is that below the pistons? looks like large lugs and lug nuts?

Anyone know what those two things on the left are with the hub sockets?

There's good tool/hardware finds cleaning out old buildings and inside junk vehicles. You just have to go through some nasty stuff to find them.

On the one hammer that has an all steel shaft and has the silver tape (I think that is the color) could you see if it has the name on it, see if it reads rocket.

The other hammer to the very right (Claw hammer) could you tell me if it has a name, I am thinking you might see the stanley name. That hammer is very nice and very old.

Wish I had more like him!! you have good eyes, lol that hammer is a rocket, has something written above rocket but I can only make out the last 3 letters, looks like "PER". I cant find any markings on the claw hammer except what looks like an "X" under the shaft of the head.

unsure, there was a 67-69(idk how to decipher) firebird race car on a trailer so possibly a pontiac engine. my stanley powerlock 25' micrometer says about 4-5/16" diameter.

Possible BBC .060 over. yours comes to 4.3125. BBC .060 would be 4.310..Pin height would be the distinguisher I guess but it would be hard to get accurately enough.

The X on the hammer has me stumped it is an older design , clean up those tools coat them with some oil and replace any of the broken handles. The Rocket at one time had a rubber handle it must have been well worn off if someone threw it away.

that "x" may just be wear and tear marks but I cant find anything on the sides yet. thanks for the help identifiying that rocket, do they(anyone) make replacement rubber handles for that one?

forgot to post the craptastic first aid metal cabinet and Jomar Moroso Performance stud girdle set that got set aside during previous pics. these were included in the deal as well.

I have given my phone number to several scrap guys with instructions to call me before scrapping tools. No phone calls yet. I even gave one guy a small pile of copper wire in hopes he would remember me.

I am close friends with a local scrapper, old Italian South Philly guy. He's a second gen Pontiac guy, so he doesn't scrap good tools or car parts. I have gotten a number of things off of him over the years for practically nothing. Transmission jack, a set of mopar headers, some Ford stuff, etc. He keeps tools for himself usually.

Post up people, and you scrappers out there, try posting some finds here and see how many offers you get, bet its more than on CL. Here was some of the booty from today, a Starret no.196 runout indicator set and 7 Proto Professionals made in USA!

Was given a Dewalt circular saw,the roofing company it came from was going to throw it away,said it was junk and had no power.It was not the saw,the blade was junk covered up with tar.Installed a new blade and this saw works fine to this day.
