when you look at it from the front ( the loft space ) it almost looks like the shape of the old (40'5 & 50's ) garages... I think it would look great... only question... do you have to follow the theme in the whole space.... ??? just my .02

An old-style service station look would be a great idea. Lots of threads here to steal from. Take a little time to research and design it and it won't turn out cheesy. You've done pretty darn good so far.

Do you have any details on that ventilation fan that you have in the wall? I'd like to find something like that to hook to a thermostat and have it turn on to vent the garage in the summer when it gets above a certain temperature. Yours looked like something that could be a possibility.

thanks guys and good ideas. I really don't have an interior theme. I have yet to hang the customary garage signs although I have been given two signs......one says "what happens in the garage stays in the garage" and the other one says @@shole's garage. Both were given to me by friends.

I will look around the journal for your ideas as they sound pretty cool.

My fan is only 20 inches in diameter but it moves 3500 cubic feet per minute. The motor can be wired 110 or 220. The salesperson (and I think there is only one) was very knowledgeable and recommended a smaller fan for my application. Being the typical male I had to supersize it as my room is about 3000 cu ft so I can turn the room over one time is less than one minute.

what I like about it was the fan is on the outside therefor taking up no interior room and I like d the flush finish of the shutters. They have many fans available and I felt their prices were competitive.

Dang Paul ain't that the truth!! I was moving some things around today and I said out loud man I wish this garage was bigger. Not really, I just need to work on organizing and I am hoping this loft will allow me to get some things off the garage area. I don't have an incredible amount of head room up there but I will make the best use of it. I am already seeing some places to add shelving up there. I will get more pictures tomorrow of it and see if anyone can throw out a good idea.

Today we did build the stairs and I am happy with that. I am like a little boy with a tree house. For some reason I just wanted to hang out of there for a minute. There is nothing up there, its just up in the air and a cozy place to hang.

The last few days we started bolting on some shiny stuff to the small block 350 going in to the suburban we have been building. it is ready for paint and now we need the truck to run. We figured it is best to get the motor in before we get the truck painted and stand the chance of scratching it.

One of the Indiana guys stayed behind to help me in the garage for another week. He decided he wanted to help me polish some of the aluminum pulleys. He decided not to use the full face shield I was using while polishing.

There is a 600 sq ft. apartment in the garage and my wife and i lived in it for 2 years. We were really quite comfortable in there. I have a picture window between the apartment and the garage so I could always see in the garage day or night. Wife needed a house though. She is a awesome woman and I couldn't make her live in the garage the rest of her life!!

Just wait until I post pictures tomorrow of even more progress on the loft. Your the architect...........sounds good on the theme. As detailed as you are I am sure you can come up with some good plans for me.

Yes there is going to be some dirt in this room. I need to get some temporary lights up so we can start working in there. I have my eyes open for a garage door so I can finish the framing in the front.

We did get our stairs built and boy is that more convenient than climbing the ladder. Right now I am working toward using the space under the stairs to organize some of my construction tools. I hope once I figure out the siding on the loft I can making a sliding "barn door" to keep them out of sight.

Straight ahead is where the stairs land in the loft. At some point we will drywall or just use 1/2" plywood to finish the room. The short set of stairs leads to the existing 500 square feet of attic storage. The area in view right now is 6'6" plus. My plans for this area is to have rolling shelves. Luckily a A/C duct is right in the middle of the room.

This is the back side of the loft as it meets the exterior concrete block walls. Short yes but as you can see I have my pallet jack up there and plans are for more crates I can organize parts in. I can roll these 4' x 4' x 3' tall crates back in the corner where the ceilings are low. Yes, that is a 6-71 blower sitting on the bottom shelf on the left.

You know the inspectors are really tuff around here too. As many garage guys if I see an opening I take advantage of it. I will only use this area if I can hide it with the door I was talking about. Unless it is organized I don't like "stuff" in view.

I thought about a workbench on the wall at the base of the work room/ loft but I saw two problems......1. It would end up being a great place to lay stuff down and it would look like a mess. i like rolling work tables i can hide in a corner. 2. Working toward a theme in the garage I want to keep the exterior area clean so I can make it look like the old garage/gas station we talked about.

The loft area once finished will not be seen from the garage so I planned on it being organized chaos.
