I was cleaning my shop in the basement and found this. I got it for "FREE", when I bought my Ridgid shop vacuum from HD about 10 years ago. I think it is the most useless tool that I have! DO YOU USE Robogrip? Is it useless to you? Post your pic of a useless tool!

Dog bone wrench. No pic as I sold it without ever using it. I guess it would be good for someone if they didn't have any sockets or combo wrenches. No good for the kind of folks that frequent this site.

Actually the Robo pliers are not useless, I've got a pair and while they ar NOT my go to pliers, I use them a fair bit for grasping flat items such as threaded unions for plumbing joints.

The Robo pliers are actually easier and quicker to use than my Knipex plier wrench is to adjust!

No tool is truly useless, it may never serve you or I, but for someone else in a given situation, they are God's gift to mankind!

I got a set of two sizes about 15 years ago for x-mas. Barely have used them. I found a set in the road a few years ago and occasionally use those.

i think the best thing sears did with those was sell the rubber jaw protectors. i still have those in the pliers drawer.

Got it one Christmas. Totally pointless. The rubber drive band in it snapped in short order and it doesn't even make a mediocre manual adjusting wrench.

I also have a dogbone wrench, which isn't totally useless. I use it for quickly finding out what size a bolt or nut is, then I can grab the right wrench or socket the first time.

I've actually used my Robogrip a couple times and it did the job when I needed a wide grip without much room to work.

However this useless tool has never been out of the toolbox. (it seemed like it would come in handy but never has):

I bought the Craftsman Robogrip two piece set style pliers about 10+/- years ago, never seemed to work as expected. This past Spring I returned them to Sears to get a flex head 3/8" ratchet, I am much happier now.........

I have the Craftsman version of the robo grip pliers, and can honestly say that I never use them. I received them as Christmas gift many years ago. They've been in a small emergency kit in the trunk of my car since the day after I received them. I can't recall ever using them, and pretty much forgot about them until I read this thread.

Robo grips are good for holding hot steel (as are my cheapie Kobalt "vise grips")

Dogbones are good for "easier" oil changes (toy corrolla first one to pop into my mind) The magnetized ones can stick to the side of the oil drains and you have a handy drain popper.

Wow, I have one of those too! The grease in it hardened so I cleaned it out and lubed it and it works great again. Yes, I have used mine before. Many times! It has come in handy changing challenging plugs as well as header bolts.

I too have the set of Robo-Grips, used the larger one a few times as it stays in plumbing tool box. I have seen that turn handle ratchet a long time ago but never bought one. Now with my disability I could use one. "Anybody want to trade for one?"

My useless tool would be a pair of triangle ended auto adjusting wrenches my mom bought me years ago. Don't recall the correct name, anybody have them?

We use a modified version of this ratchet at work. A local fab shop lengthens the handle and "T" to about five feet. They are then used to loosen and tighten nuts on elevator handrails. The length of the ratchet allows you to access the nuts from the pit beneath the elevator.

that just comes right after the dogbone wrench. Probably one of my first own tools as a kid.

I find the Robogrips to be pretty handy from time to time. I keep throwing them way in the back of a drawer and keep going after them occasionally. Especially with the soft jaws (I evidently have what will be a life time supply of those). I use them to pull spark plug wires.

My sister gave my dad those a few years ago despite my advice not to. I was at my dad's the other day and saw them still in the package in the bottom of his toolbox
