I have to admit, I've never heard of an o-ring splicing kit before. :headscrat

We have them at work. You just pick the appropriate diameter material, cut it to length with a razor and glue it together with the cement. We have fond these kits work great, at least for our applications (non standard and large o-rings).

My gut says that to make much money on eBay with that pile of stuff, you probably couldn't go over $100-$150 on it unless there's a hidden gem.

Seems a pretty good idea.

I'd like one of those lots of 100 printers or 150 fax machines or something. So when i get really angry (like when my computer deletes long e-mails that took 45 mins to type) i have something that i can smash into a thousand pieces, which will make me feel better and i won't regret it when i've calmed down.

Throw a couple cases of Mr. Ease spray on the pallet and it might all make sense. That spray would make a great wedding gift here in sunny CA.

I admit that's true. It's just that if you add in (let's say) 300-400 miles in a pickup and the high likelihood that most of it is either beat to death, isn't worth a bunch, or is specialized kits for some oddball government purpose, and it's a pretty hard sell. I think I'd rather go look at an interesting car, but it's true there is the treasure hunt angle here.

It seems to me that I read somewhere an article by a guy who buys and sells (on eBay) government auction electronic test equipment and tools and really knew his market. I think his claim was he needed to buy things for less than 10% of what he estimated he could get for them to make it worth his while.

Another treasure hunt that is in the back of my mind somewhere was some guys from Hot VW's (or some other aircooled magazine) who went to South American countries to track down old and abandoned VW dealerships to scrounge for NOS parts. I seem to remember they found a big cache of semaphore turn signals somewhere. Now *that* would be a fun adventure.

What does 'mutilation not required' mean?

Some things that you buy on government auctions you are buying just for the scrap value, and you are required to mutilate the product on site, witnessed by the gov't, so they know it won't get into the publics hands.

I guess a good example would be the government surplus parachutes you see for sale. The lines have all been cut so the parachute is not usable.

What fun is it to buy a surplus parachute if you can't use it to jump off of stuff?
