I use a dab of Redline CV2 grease and 75w90 differential oil. Works well. Quiets every ratchet down, requires less effort to turn, and no issues!

What no red lube of love (permatex engine assembly lube) for a coarse tooth ratchet? Merkava's head would spin off.

Air tool oil, or Break Free CLP for ratchets over 45 teeth.

Permatex green brake lube for ratchets <45 teeth.

I'm sure this is NOT the "right" stuff to use, but I had a fairly new Craftsman 1/4 drive ratchet at work that was horrible. I just happened to have a bottle of Tri-Flow in front of me, and took it apart and used that. Much to my amazment, it now works 1000x better now. That was probably a year and a half ago, and it still has a nice action to it.

A banned member who posted over 14,000 times. I guess he was too vocal about his love for American tools; too bad I could have argued with him for days on end. He probably is still a member under another name. I have been trying to expose him for awhile.

I never thought I would say this, but maybe they should sticky one of the 500 threads on ratchet lube? There is at least two a week posted saying the same thing over and over and no one ever tried to do a google search for ratchet lube on this site or even try the almost useless search system included with this site to come up with an already posted answer......

i use superlube 21030 in all my ratchets, 36 toofs and fine toofs. fine toofs take a tad less than the coarse to work properly, but it smooths out any ratchet i have put it in exceptionally well. i am a firm believer that superlube is the ultimate ratchet lube, just the right viscosity, and super slick. if snap on recommends it, im sure its halfway decent.... although i have been using it for years, long before i knew they supplied it with their ratchet rebuilds.

and i agree, this should be made a sticky, or a thread should be made in the stickies for stickies informative thread. these do happen regularly. but i have no problem preaching up the superlube, its good stuff ya know!
