I have a 10x10 storage area inside my 32x25 garage. Don't want to stick an A/C unit out the brick wall and was wanting to cut a hole into the storage area and vent it up and to the attic. Anyone done this? or know of any problems I may run into? thanks!

My prediction is high head pressure issues plus an added heat load from said attic.

Do you want to mount it 90 degrees off horizontal? Pointing straight up?
If so, that just doesn't seem good for some reason. Condensate drainage being one.
Plus I'd hope the attic is VERY well ventilated.

All window A/C unit need to be mounted with the outside a bit lower so that the condensation can drain.

I do not see why it would not work, "IF": You direct the condensing air up, and out, thru some sort of exaust transition, and or ducting, to take it "UP, and "OUT" of the conditioned space, as close as you can get it to the O.A! As I see it, the "Worst Case" senerio, would be you had too long of an exaust run, in which case you may develop high head pressure. Remember, Heat Rises natuarally, and always flows from hot to cold naturally. Good Luck!

Or you could get a portable unit on wheels, then just run the exhaust vent up and out and keep a bucket next to it to catch moisture emptying it from time to time if you can't run a hose outside or to a drain.

Just looking at options... I could run the back of the unit into an enclosed box with drain and drip pan.... and mount and utilize an exhaust fan to force the heat out.
That is a good plan! I doubt if you have any condensation issues, but keep the runs as short as possible. This helper fan you speak of would not be a bad idea, if you think your run may be too long to get rid of all the cond. heat.!

Won't that 10x10 room get extremely hot, with the exhaust side of the A/C unit blowing into it? The efficiency of an A/C unit depends on the ability of the condenser to exchange heat with the surrounding air, thereby drawing heat away from the freon gas in the tubes.

As I read it, he was going to exaust the condensing air to the outside! If I read it wrong, then you are correct, it will be a wash with the evaporator cooling the condensing air in a vicious cycle, which will result in a short cycling "Wash"!

Won't work, speaking from experience! We have a loft type upstairs bedroom. I installed a window type A/C through the wall into a well vented attic space. The A/C would work for a while and then cool very little as the heat built up in the attic space. Natural ventilation will not carry the heat produced by the A/C unit away fast enough. I believe that if the attic space was vented with a thermostatically controlled power ventilator that this arrangement could work. I never got that far, we just quit using the AC. Also, you will need to make provisions for dealing with the condensate produced, as stated above.

thanks for the experienced feedback... Cant beat experience and what you say makes perfect sense unless i was able to expel most of the heat from the attic. Probably easier solutions.
