Got a 44" HF roller...

and am totally satisfied with the build quality and price! now im in the process of trying to switch over from a 26" way over loaded crafty, to this roller. and have rearranged the drawers about 4 times so far.

im defintely gonna need another roller soon, thats for sure. i knew it wasnt going to be a huge addition to the available space, but i thought it would be a bit more.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm not a HF shopper, not into most of the tools they have, but after a lot of research I got the same roller as you. I've had it a couple of years now, and I'm very happy with it. I really don't think you can beat the value, it's a nice unit...

Tool boxes are just like gun safes, the bigger you get, the more tools/guns you'll get to fill the damn thing. Have fun!

Really happy with mine. And keep re-arranging stuff between it and my old 26" Craftsman. I also thought I could limit myself to one box. Was I ever wrong... And worse, I keep adding stuff. Giving some thought to the top box or a pair of side boxes.

My wife got me mine for an early fathers day gift. I am very pleased with the quality of it. I have also expanded my tool line up quite substantially and have organized and reorganized trying to make more space but I have excepted I need the top box. No more tools till I get more room.

i love mine but wish i was 24" (or 30!) deep. not sure if i'll get two more of the 44 when my shop is finally up, or a HF 56" (which is 24" deep) or something else entirely (i drool over the extreme and montezuma 72").. but the HF 44 has been rolled all over creation, chock full (and overflowing), and is still in near-perfect shape. best value i know of for toolboxes and flat out high quality, period.

i too wish it was deeper, but i cant complain for the money. if i needed deeper, i coulda spent a bunch more money.

the only thing that has caught my eye is the paint. i am not sure if they are all the same way or not, but mine is fairly "rough". its gloss paint, but it aint smooth. the craftsman box i have is near perfect gloss smooth, this HF cant compete there, but the build and strength is there. im definitely happy with the box though. still not sorted out the drawers tho....

what is everyone using the full length drawer for? i was gonna go with all wrenches, but its too deep and will waste much space.

Congrats on the new box. I almost got one, but the employees at HF pissed me off so I went down the road to Northern Tool and picked up the 41" Homak bottom roller and top chest

I use the top drawer of mine as a catch all more or less. PPE, pens, nitrile gloves, notepad, etc.

Great box for the price.

i use the ernst socket rails and their 'pads' to hold the rails vertically. don't have a pic handy, but i've got a LOT of sockets in there and my most used ratchets.

re: the depth, yep, i wish it was deeper, but for the money, there is nothing close quality-wise. i do have a couple of wrench racks and rolls that simply won't fit (never mind the big 1/2" breakers and ratchets, pry bars, etc) in the drawers, or do fit but in an odd position making for lots of wasted space. still, the damn thing is so cheap (in comparison to other quality boxes) that i may end up just buying more of them rather than a bigger box..

the stupid harbor freight by me has the 44 lower box locked so ive never been able to look inside the thing...maybe i should just save for the 56...but the 56 doesnt have that many drawers so i dunno

I put my sockets/ratchets/extensions in the top drawer.

I did the same, metric on the right, SAE on the left. 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive, 6 point, 12 point, short, deepwell, impact... Its a mess right now. Still adding stuff doesn't help much.

Congrats on the larger roller box, TwoInch. I've been considering the same upgrade (from my likewise overloaded 26-inch Craftsman roller cab). Planning to keep and place my Craftsman 26-inch top chests on top. I've kicked the tires on the HF 44-inch roll-cab in the store, it does seem to be well-built and sturdy! Show us some pics of your box if possible.

Also noticed the quality issues with the paint job. Guess I can live with it.

sockets organized in harbor freight trays fit perfect. You can fit four 1/2" trays, four 3/8", and two 1/4"

Fits all my sockets perfectly, including 1/2" and future 3/8" impacts

Good for you TwoInch. It's the best valueon the market right now. When you need more room, you could add a side box or two. Then make a custom top and have a good work bench to boot.

im pretty sure the homak and HF boxes are from the same chinese manufacture. i think there was a thread about it somewhere.

seems HF employees are generally idiots at most stores. i had a problem with a manager a month or two ago, which kinda delayed my box purchase, but i said screw it, im goin back for it. the last time i was in there i called the manager a ****, and he threw me out of the store. he deserved the moniker, and much more in my eyes.

I thought the HF 56" was only 22" deep. Maybe they changed it up though.

i plan on making a top for this one, not sure of what material. the 56" is stated to be 22" deep, so the drawers are probably closer to 21"

i didnt realize the boxes were 44" and 56" with the handles... the 44" is actually 42". now i get why everyone calls them different on here. i have seen 41" 42" and 44" i couldnt believe they were sending out different sizes like that

I've had the 44" (dull finish) for a couple of years now and love it. It's of a similar quality to the Husky 52" box I have (also ball bearing) though the Husky box cost me about the same on closeout.

I have HF socket trays on top with shallow and deep 1/2" impact sockets plus all of my impact extensions and breaker bars and adapters are in there. It's a heavy drawer and I only use one hand to open/close it (from the middle). I'm impressed it has held up and would buy another to match when the time comes had it not gone glossy.

Side question for those of you that already have one of these. What do you do to defeat the latch system that holds the drawers closed? When I get mine I plan to bypass the feature unless there is some reason to have it. I have no plans to roll the box anywhere in my standard garage.

The 44" doesn't use a latch system, just rubber stops or something to make it friction fit into place.

FWIW these boxes have incredible resale value. I bought mine for $275 used and sold it for $300, and I even posted the link to the Harbor Freight site in the ad! Assuming you bought it for $350+tax (coupon) you won't lose much if you decide to sell it and upgrade to the 56".

I too wish this box came in 24" depth and it was the sole reason I upgraded to a 56" box (not Harbor Freight this time though). A 42" wide 24" deep box would be perfect for me as the 56" is overkill in my garage.

Ain't that the truth. I bought three of the HF boxes in an effort to "future-proof" my workspace. That was about a month ago, and they're already full.
