All that and i still can't find a morgan #135.....
I will keep my eyes open for you buddy!

That Prentiss #23 is a sight to behold, very very nice. Any idea on the weight for that piece?

Dayid site says 270lbs, but it didn't feel that heavy carrying it out of Zoomie's basement. Must have been all the adrenalin!:lol_hitti

I thought it was more like 220lbs, but I don't remember, Phy6 will toss it on the scale for ya!!!

This is my only reference, it could be that the model changed over the years or maybe this was a misprint (bottom middle)

Just picked this up off of eBay -----
20120702_180140.jpeg

So got the vise today ----- a little more beat up than I had thought. Most notably the handle is bent.

Cleaned her up real good ------ original paint is some kind of greenish gray?

Date code just says 12-46

Front jaw is stamped 8400 and rear half is stamped 9400. Do you think they had leftovers and just mated them up together at the end of 1946?

Are the lockdown bolts brass or is that just my imagination? Will need new jaw inserts and lockdown handles.

I found another ad that has the prentiss #23 listed as 207lbs, which I'm more inclined to believe. Bad thing about having one of those digital glass scales, I'm too afraid to break it!:spit:

Weigh it in two parts, (easier to handle that way) and put a 1X10 or 12 on the scale first. (applies to a metal scale also, as concentrated weight can still bend the hell out of them, (Ask me how I know...)

Question for someone with a 104-1/2 with a stock handle: How long is that handle from the factory? :dunno:

I just checked my similar vintage 204 1/2 R, if that is a good approximation, and it measures right about 12.5"

My similarly looking Reed 204-1/2 (no R) has a 11-1/4 handle with 1" spherical balls on each end. That makes for a total length of 13-1/4"

Hmmm I wonder if they were on a "+- an inch" tolerance for the handle? :dunno:

I'll try to sneak out to the barn later for a remeasure and a picture.

Sorry for the delay. Here's the measurement (13-1/4") on the Reed 204-1/2 handle.

Mine is a few years older and has the same markings.

Hello, I've been surfing here alot, figured I'd join in on the fun. I don't have a ton of vises, but I have a few...

This one is the reason I decided to post--having trouble identifying it. Marked Wilton N-2 on both jaw heads and numbered 111092 and 111093 -- Jaws are 4" and it weighs 40 lbs (missing base).

Just one pic for now to make sure I'm doing it right.

And a Wilton 6" I just restored--it has the cheap nameplate riveted on, no Wilton castings

I have an auction that I plan on going to coming up in a few weeks that has these 2 vises in it. Does anyone reconize them? Looks to me like the one on the right has been brazed or welded on on the moving jaw.

I posted a new thread in the general tools forum but thought that this thread would get a lot more attention. I bought a Wilton 845 vise today I got it off the bench picked it up and saw TAIWAN stamped on the bottom... anyone know anything about it? http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157668

Here's my first vise I bought last month, still unmounted.

I agree that the one on the right is a welded/repaired Hollands. It has a Keystone logo on the dynamic jaw. I don't mind a welded slide if the crack is small but that is a big repair on a very stressed area.

Shoot - very nice array of vises! Good effort on gathering them up.

Here is my newest find for the day. I didn't even take a close look at the vise when i bought it and once i got it home, i noticed just how nice of shape its in.

The jaws have nice serrations and there is just a bit of hack saw marks on the sides of the jaw towers. Other then that, its doesn't have a mark on it anywhere.

Paint and polish are coming soon:bounce:

Sweet! Must ask - what did you give for it?
