Greetings all, I am new here and have found a wealth of info in all the posts, thanks.

So, Happy Father's day to me, pics are posted on Flickr. It all started with Sweetie buying me a new Snap-On Classic 78 roller cabinet last weekend to replace the old tired Craftsman. Sweetie also said “Call Luis the cabinet guy.” So after having an “O” right on the spot, I called Luis and he and the team showed up Tuesday with a table saw and some wood. It’s Thursday and he’s done. Life is that way in South Texas, there is a tasty taco stand, a landscaper and a bada$$ carpenter on every corner.

My life in the suburbs involves wrenching on Land Cruisers, Sweeties’ Benz and the errant bicycle or skateboard. A Cobra is somewhere up ahead, not sure when though. So my “dream” garage has to include room for Sweetie’s stuff, a few bikes, a pressure washer, fertilizer spreader and some family junk. But all in all, I am not suffering, as you can see.

If you check out my pics you'll see the 2-car side of our 3-car garage. Once I get all the junk out from behind Door #3 to the left, I can move Sweetie’s car over and I “think” I can safely occupy the 2-bay with all my stuff. I sketched this layout out on the wall when Luis showed up, trying to consider all parties involved and their storage needs. For a 15-minute brainstorm, I am very happy. I have a buttload of storage lockers, some cabinets for parts and supplies, a desk and even an overhead cubby for the flatscreen.

My next steps are to prep, prime and paint the cabinets, so any advice now on primer and paint brands/types is appreciated. I have a Titan 440 airless sprayer I plan on using for the cabinets, walls and the floor, experience using that helpful too. Once the cabinets are painted, I will thoroughly prep the floor and plan on using Devran 224HS in beige with some cool chip colors and urethane coating on top. Need to raise the garage doors further towards the ceiling and sort out the AC but that will all come in time. All thoughts and input appreciated, more pics and progress/details to follow.

Jealous. Very jealous :p

Where in houston are ya? Kingwood here.

If I were doing what you're doing, I would be tempted to invest in a shed for the yardwork supplies, and keep the garage tidy (as possible, I know how it is!).

I am in Cypress. The gutter Nazis would go ballistic if I erected a structure out back. They were livid when I cut down a simple tree, and it was near dead.

Oh man, even worse than kingwood. Wow.

Well I suppose you got the room for plenty of tools, yard or otherwise! Those cabinets look fantastic, and they'll be even better once painted :)

Spent the weekend prepping the cabinets for priming by filling nail holes and caulking the seams. The builder had installed a single outlet on each wall just above where each of the the counters are now, so I decided to expand them to quads. At the same time I ran light switches and the pre-wiring for under cabinet lights. Snaking Romex 18" up through the wall was a &^%$# treat involving more engineering than needed to build the space shuttle. I'm not much an electrician but the switches are hot and the outlets all work.

More pics of my progress (and the Land Cruiser beast ) later this week.

Filled in the nail holes and imperfections, what a PITA. Cabinets are now primed using Sherwin Williams ProBlock and my Titan 440i airless sprayer. Never used the sprayer before, it was awesome once I dialed in the right pressure. The SW primer is tinted to match my final color, SW Khaki Shade. The primer is thick as mud. I shot it using a 417 tip at about 1800 psi. Next step is to remove the doors and start painting. I am using SW Pro Classic semi-gloss enamel.

Really nice looking garage. The cabinets look awesome too! I was wondering how he made the doors, did he use plywood and add molding around the perimeter? Can't tell from the pics.

Looks great! Ever consider adding some storeWALL?

Thanks for the replies. I might use some sort of wall storage product the other one-car side of the garage. There's not much wall space on the 2-car side.

Yes, the cabinet doors and faces are all cabinet grade birch. The doors are double thickness with a quarter-round molding around the edges. Once I get them painted I will post up more cabinet detail.

Very nice  What kind of floor treatment will you be using?

My plan is to fix the minor cracks, sand the floor and use a couple coats of Devoe Devran 224HS, followed by chips and a coat of Devoe 379 urethane. I am open to suggestions, but for the $$, I can't seem to find a better setup.

That is one fantastic layout--nice planning. The first thing that hit my eye was the entrance door in the corner. I have been in many homes and I cannot recall ever seeing the entrance in a spot like that. Great space saver.

Looking forward to the final pics.

I feel your pain concerning the covenant Nazi's. We also have some residents in our development who are way over the edge. The common fence was being painted for the homeowners association by a contractor and one of his men used a nearby faucet to fill a bucket of water. The homeowner screamed theft. I know they should have asked, but screaming over a gallon of water--get real. Now a gallon of gas, maybe!

Great job.

After a couple of weekends and some evenings after work, the cabinets are all painted. The Titan Airless worked great, the majority of the time was consumed waiting on paint to dry in the miserable Houston humidity. I am extremely impressed with the outcome. The side area with the Snap-On will be all my auto parts and tools and the cabinets in the front of the garage are for home items, chemicals, sports stuff, and misc junk.

I will be installing under counter lights and one more overhead light this weekend. Next will be repainting the walls and ceiling to something considerably lighter and more durable. Then we'll epoxy the floor, put down some 4" rubber base and decorate the walls.

Oh, one more thing. Sweetie is so happy with my new-found happy disposition through the project, she said I could start building my Cobra as soon as the floor is done. :pimpflash

Thanks. Actually, the box is what lit the fuse on the rest of it. I installed lights below and above the cabinets tonight and they look nifty. But it was probably 100 degrees in there at 9PM. Gonna need some AC and a beer fridge.

UPDATE>> I just finished having to hand grind the floor because I couldn't find a grinder for rent anywhere in the tiny town of Houston, TX with the right stones/cutters. :( I rented a large hand grinder from Lowe's and forked over $100 for a Dewalt 7" XP Diamond cutter. I can't imagine doing it without the shop-vac attached, because even with it, dust everywhere. So its been a long, hard weekend but after two passes with the pressure washer, I am ready to go.

I need to patch a couple more cracks and then I am ready to prime with Devoe 167 pre-prime. I will be using Devoe 224HS followed by flakes and 379A urethane topcoat. I'll post pics in a few days of my progress.
