Background:
Existing House:
Two stories, each floor is 1056sf for a total of 2112sf.
Forced air natgas heat with 22 year old furnace.
No air conditioning.
Planned new Shop/Garage:
1850sf
Attached via 20ft of one wall.
In floor hydronic heat with boiler.
Mini-split for cooling.
At some point my 22 year old house furnace is going to have to be replaced which got me thinking in a new direction:
House:
New boiler sized for house and shop.
New air handler unit with heating & cooling coils.
New condenser used for both house coil and shop coil.
Shop/Garage:
Hydronic heat via new house boiler.
Air handler with air conditioning coil powered via house condenser.
Money not spent on future furnace replacement is used on a larger boiler and two air handlers. Plus the house gets air conditioning.
Will need to find a condenser with two independant coil capability.
Air handler in the new shop/garage is independant from the house.
What do you all think?
Thanks,
Ed
