It looks smaller in the pictures then it really is.
LMAO... Just messing with ya...
Close. 4" jaws and about 25lbs. It looks smaller in the pictures then it really is.
And here are a few of the completed restoration.
Partial update on my newest Reed 204R from last weekend. Paint has dried and lettering finished. The rest will be polished this week and assembled before the weekend when i'll have a few more projects to acquire![]()
I like it! I'm gradually moving away from tool grey, but I still like seeing tools in grey.![]()

Garage sale find, Woden 186B/6 (stationary base 6" wide jaw). Vise is a beast, need to clean up and put to use.

I too am getting a bit burnt out on black or grey but i don't keep many of the vises i refinish so i keep future customers in mind.
Not too many buyers are going to want a very brightly colored vise.![]()

What? You don't think that would sell well in pink?

250 pages! That is a lot of work, well done ALL!

Does your daughter need a new Hello Kitty vise?
I might end up doing something wild with my next vise since i have been keeping it tame.
I did paint my Prentiss Gipsy a metallic red which was pretty unique
Don't ask me, I'm merely her father.)I got a good one at a flea market today. It is a Starrett 924. I wasn't planning to spend more than a few dollars on odd tools, after just coming home from 2 days at the Case knife show. He wouldn't budge off of $75, but he did agree to throw in the extra heavy Williams C clamp. Someone was beating, or cheating on the handle at one time, but it is not hurt, still tight and crisp. #57
Picked this up at the flea market today . Couldnt beat ti for 7 bux .

That's a great vise!
Not sure about the date on that Sears vise, I don't remember seen any marked "Sears" in the Craftsman/Sears tool catalogs I have access too.
But a good deal for only 7 bucks!
Here's my second restoration job, this one a smaller Wilton, model Cadet 9135.
3 1/2" jaws, open to 4 1/2", ringing in at 18 pounds dry.
When I picked it up she was missing both of the swivel tighten levers on the base, and Nightshift here was kind enough to help get her going - thanks once again sir.
Any guess as to the year on this one? The metal stamp on the bottom of the slide is not quite legible.
Cheers,
David
Girlfriend surprised me with this for my birthday...

.
You better keep her! Nice vise!
Definitely a keeper!
) and missing the swivel base, but it's a good 'ole higher quality vise. I couldn't see it make it to the scrap yard....so I bought the puppy home.
. The welded jaw had me at a cross roads. It was a good solid weld, but I was REALLY thinking about grinding it off. My concern was that the PO cut the center mounting section off to accomodate the "other" soft jaw. I decided to grind it down and leave it alone. I used my cutting wheel to make gnarl marks in it. I know it's ghetto, but I was all out of ideas. I just need to wire wheel the paint off, and get new scews for the dynamic jaw. The old one were trashed, and the new ones need to be flat headed and a little smaller.
. I finished it off with a #00 Mack fineline pinstripe brush using One Shot lettering enamel. It's been quite some time since I've tried it, but it turned out OK. I'm still no sort of pinstripers. I have a couple of friends that are exceptional at it.

Beautiful find, I love how stout and uncompromising they are. I have a 6" Paramo that is very similar and they are impressive pieces to be sure.![]()

Nice. I picked up the bigger version, a mint 926 about 2 months ago that weighs 205 lbs.
Finally had some time to look over the vises I got a while back. Anyone know any info on this old Reed 104? I can't find any date stamped in it, only the letters shown below on the front/bottom of the slide. Someone ground the bottom lip down and it has some file marks up top but it opens/closes like butter, one finger operation. How long are patents pending? The vise has this cast in it:
Pat. Dec. 24, 1912
Patent Pending
